Chicago Tribune editorial: Guilt by association
Guilt by association

Tribune editorial
6:16 PM CDT, April 17, 2008

First, you have to wonder why ABC News thought it was a good idea to have George Stephanopoulos, who was one of President Bill Clinton's highest-ranking aides, serve up questions at a debate between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Second, you have to wonder why Stephanopoulos, who has been resurrected as a television commentator, thought to ask Obama about . . . Bill Ayers.
-snip-

So we're going to side with Mayor Richard Daley on this one.

"There are a lot of reasons that Americans are angry about Washington politics. And one more example is the way Sen. Obama's opponents are playing guilt by association, tarring him because he happens to know Bill Ayers," Daley said Thursday. "I don't condone what he did 40 years ago but I remember that period well. It was a difficult time, but those days are long over. I believe we have too many challenges in Chicago and our country to keep re-fighting 40-year-old battles."

Well said. Now how about getting back to the real campaign?

2. Plus it is strange that Stephonolous Hannity's direct association to Hillary
wasn't anything anyone should notice, but yet Obama and Ayers.....now that's to be noted! :eyes:

9. They think they won't be held
accountable. Wonder if they even had a clue what the people's reaction would be?

15. what i dont get is
clinton(bill) pardoned 2 actual convicted bombers of the weather underground
ayers was never convicted as far as i know
can someone confirm the conviction of ayers
i know he himself has taken responsibility for many actions in the 60s but has he ever actually been convicted of them?
if not then its another case of clinton "do as i say not as i do" syndrome

5. Just wish the Obama folks could stop with the lies - David Axelrod tells the
press that two folks pardoned by President Clinton had killed people. They were not convicted of that. One had been seen emptying a car trunk of weapons, the other of having her as a house guest.

Of course David is the one Obama turned to when he wanted to play the race card to stop Hillary's momentum from her NH win - so I guess we just have to expect this behavior.

6. I'm so tired of your bullshit till it ain't even funny.....
When a man can be asked about where's his flag pin, something that wasn't asked of anyone else ever running for President before, you've got your funky nerves trying to accuse Obama of anything.

Everyone knows who's who and who did what. You funky self isn't needed to paint a picture gotten from your delussional mind.

10. FrencieCat - please read up on the 88 election - note the Dukes "flag error" and Bush's
flag photo ops that are credited with helping Bush win.

This is not the first time - and indeed the insult is not the not wearing of a Flag pin - it is what Obama said about that - he said those that wear the flag pin were not real patriots because real patriots speak out like he, Obama, had done.

Well a lot of folks wear the flag pin and really think of themselves as patriots - not because they wear a pin, but because they just think they are patriots.

This error by Obama will be shoved down our throats in the fall by the GOP if Obama is nominated - it will be 1988 all over again.

don't wear the pin. I know what Obama said, and I agree with it. It is like all the people that think they are doing something wonderful and patriotic and troop-supporting by putting a yellow ribbon magnet on their car. It is, truly, the very LEAST you can do.

14. and that flag pin is made in China, and probably that magnet
so nothing patriotic about that.

Giving the soldiers their benefits and due respect would be a hell of alot better.
