Obama leads Clinton 71% to 28% among PA College Students
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 08:33 AM by powergirl
Wow! Could this be why Clinton wouldn't go on Hardball for the PA College Tour?

"(CBS) Most students attending four-year colleges and universities in Pennsylvania are enthusiastic about voting in the presidential campaign, according to a poll conducted by CBS News and UWIRE, and Barack Obama is the overwhelming favorite among those who intend to vote in the Democratic primary.

"Among Pennsylvania students who will vote or have voted in a Democratic primary in any state, Obama leads Hillary Rodham Clinton 71 percent to 28 percent, and among those who intend to vote in the Pennsylvania primary, Obama leads by a nearly identical margin of 71 percent to 29 percent. Support for Obama is consistent across types and sizes of schools."

(cut)

"The level of enthusiasm and interest in the campaign is high and exists among freshman and seniors, men and women and in various public and private institutions across the state."

(cut)

"Looking ahead to November, Pennsylvania college students prefer either Democratic candidate over presumptive Republican nominee John McCain. In an Obama/McCain match-up, Obama leads by an overwhelming 71 percent to 29 percent, and if Clinton is the Democratic nominee, she leads McCain by a smaller margin of 58 percent to 42 percent."

When Obama is the nominee, the college voters turn out for Obama in the GE MUCH larger numbers than they would for Clinton.

1. Cool, thanks
There hasn't been much polling done on college students, so this is really interesting. It's encouraging to see the high percentages who say they are registered to vote. Hopefully turnout will be good.

4. Good news, but you might want to
edit your subject line. 78% + 28% = 106%

7. It's style politics vs new.
People , especially young people, are sick and tired of politics as usual.

It's time for a change, Hillary is old school.

9. I have two nieces and one nephew in PA colleges all are for Obama as are their friends

They have been working hard for him too. Makes me proud. I do my bit in NJ and they do theirs in PA. I also have a nephew at North Carolina State and he and his friends are all Obama supporters and working hard to make sure he becomes the nominee.

10. They turned out for John Kerry, who is not the most inspiring candidate anyway
I can only imagine how large the numbers of 18-24 year old students would be for Obama in November.

11. And they won't turn out that way for Sen. Clinton
Chelsea and President Clinton have been working those colleges - but they aren't getting results. There is something about Sen. Clinton that does not resonate with them. I don't know what it is. But - not my problem!

17. Kerry was an inspiring candidate to many who saw him
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 09:07 AM by karynnj
Some how he inspired far more people to go out to vote for him than your avatar, who won a total of one primary in two years ever did. (Yes, I know he got NC as a favorite son after Kerry had already captured the nomination.)

I do agree that the college population is far more enthusiastic this year behind Obama - but I was at several campuses in the days after the November election - and there were many kids still crying over Kerry's loss. (I had a high school kid looking at college and NJ had a 2 day teacher's conference that week.)
