DP/CBS News poll shows 73 percent of Penn students favor Obama, with 71 percent of students supporting him statewide


According to a recent Daily Pennsylvanian/CBS News poll, Clinton (D-N.Y.) lags far behind Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) among Penn voters on campus.

Among Penn students, 73 percent of registered Democrats favor Obama for the nomination, compared to just 26 percent for Clinton - who appeared in Colbert's show, filmed on campus, last night in an appeal to young voters before Tuesday's primary.

4. 6 Big Papers in PA Endorse Obama, Clinton got one college paper

Six of the 10 largest newspapers have endorsed Obama - two in Philadelphia, one in the Lehigh Valley, one in Northeast PA, one in Pittsburgh and one in the Harrisburg area. Meanwhile, Hillary has been endorsed by one college paper.

I read an account of the Colbert pre-show Friday night in Phila. They said most of the crowd consisted of U.Penn students. During the warmup, they asked who supported Hillary. Polite clapping by a few. They asked who supported Obama. The rafters on the building were lifted up by the noise.

regular papers. This could well mean the end of massive YOUTH support for Sen. Obama.

It is also possible that for a show, students were not all allowed to enter. It has happened this way at lots of gatherings.

A huge percentage of U.Penn students are from northern New Jersey and New York. The editors of the student paper are probably from Westchester County and Long Island, where Hillary is popular.

Obama has also received the endorsement of the Bucks County Courier-Times (an important paper in the Phila suburbs), the Newcastle paper (in northwest PA) and in Sunbury (one of the larger papers in north-central pa).

I haven't found any commercial newspapers in PA that have endorsed Hillary.

Nothing wrong with being old physically, as long as one is still forward-thinking and ready to embrace change.

The Clintons clearly are not for change anymore. They are advocates of status quo because, as long as the status quo holds, they will be part of the Elites.

They speak about the past A LOT. This harkening to the "good old days" is so Republican, it makes my head spin.

If you want the status quo, Hillary Clinton is for you. She will continue Bush Jr's policies and her politics are the same, so we can expect the same secrecy, manipulations and Rove policies and tactics.

However, if you really want change, then you have to look elsewhere. I've settled on Obama, but there are other options.

Just don't sell out America to a status-quo candidate.

After all, my sister-in-law NEVER tells me her age. Not in 36 years of being married to her brother.

Here's how I figure it out: Hubby Al is 74, born on June 23, and he has one sister two years younger born on THEIR COMMON birthday. (Talk about rivalry!)

The sister-in-law who won't talk is nine years younger than my husband, born April 22.

Well, at least *I'M* not running for office.

It's the mindset and their political approach that make the Clintons "old." They used to be forward-thinking, progressive, and "young" in their political outlook. No more.

It is the "old" politics that are killing our country. It is the status quo political pimps who are killing our country.

The Clintons are not for "change" in the way most Americans mean it. Based on their actions, and not on their words, they likely would continue to aggressively push outsourcing of American jobs, continue the Middle East conflict at least at the Bush Jr level (and after the last debate, Hillary might actually get us into MORE wars), and continue policies, such as the bankruptcy measure Hillary endorsed with her vote, that that will harm Americans.

Hillary backed the majorit of Bush Jr's most heinous policies. We cannot expect her to do any different than what she has already demonstrated as her priorities.

So if a voter wants 4 more years of Bush-Jr/neocon policies, then Hillary is the candidate. But if they want change, they must go elsewhere.

If I were 30 years old, I might be able to more easily identify with your extrapolated position.

But my history takes me back to the 1940s, and I recalled a good deal of it quite vividly. Dad was a very political guy -- always a Democrat in the "solid South." (Solidly Democratic!). He was elected Councilman, Vice Mayor, and finally a judge. Politics is our sports... and the same is true in my 36 years with Al.

Jack Kennedy promised us "the moon" in 1960. As you know, he was gunned down in 1963. That dream came through long after he was dead. The continuity goes back before you were born and before I was born.

The OP just echoed some of my cousin's feelings. My cousin was born in 1944.

As it is, I still see that Bill Clinton did a pretty darn good job, given what came before and after him.

38. this isn't surprising since it's happening all over the nation...

my nephew just graduated from college and he's strong Obama. He's never been politically active in his life. In fact, I've always been the one who has been the politically active one and when he told me how much he did for Obama's campaign here in Texas for the primary and will continue to do when he's running in the GE, I was stunned--proud, but stunned.

And it's not just him either. This generation reminds me of the 1980's generation when everyone went hogwild for Reagan. I was a freshman in college then and remember how people really got on the bandwagon then. It seems that a "movement" of change--whether to the right or left--happens during these cycles of evolving political decades. This "cycle" is looking for progressive change and understandably so. People are tired of the GOP politics and that's why there is a shift. It can't be stopped. Hillary isn't liked very much with this generation. They see her as "motherly, scolding, and out of touch," per my nephew. Hillary maintains support from women and older Dems.

These "older" Dems and Repubs who are conservative are dying out and their voice is getting weaker. I think that's a good thing for this country.

40. One DUer said that the polls have no way of counting all the newly registered voters,

which s/he estimated at 10 to 13% of the total. Therefore, polls can vary and they cannot be completely trusted.

How would they do it? Telephone intercept techniques are obsolete due to the fact that cellphone numbers aren't easily available. Standing on a corner of the campus and doing personal intercepts has its own flaws.

I'll have to read more about it at the link.
