Fahrenheit 9/11 not being played at a lot of theatres????? Why?
Are a lot of them afraid to touch it? It is obviously going to be a huge seller. Tons of theatres around me will not be playing it. I guess there could be a chance they will start showing it when they see the sales?!?!?! I am confused.

1. Where are you at?

They're showing it all over Tucson, which is a crackerass dive city full of mutants and rednecks. They're even showing it in Oro Valley which is an all Republican town for the most part.

I'd be amazed if it was not showing at any local theaters in cities that aren't run by those who miss segregation.

16. they will quickly put aside their Philosophical Concerns
once they see the big bucks others are raking in this weekend. I predict it will be showing on a lot more screens very soon.

18. That's my whole philosophy on big media
But nobody here agrees with me. When they see that the movie will make them big bucks at the box office (well more like at the concession stand), they will show the movie no matter what it does to Bush's reputation.

27. I agree with you. That's the thing with Pugs--if there is a clash between
"principles" (theirs are certainly not mine) and dollars, dollars often win out.

14. It's showing here in Knoxville, TN
because we bugged the shit outta Regal Cinemas (HQed in Knoxville) to show it.
Glad I got tickets early, too. It's sold completely out for opening night. :)

19. daveskilt, it was originally going to open here on Friday...
but it's been delayed. It's more of a matter that we are a lower priority town. There is a large built-in audience here who will go see the movie when it arrives in a couple of weeks (and the distributor knows that)

5. please take note of the recent aquistion of Lowes theartres by the
Caryle Group. It s well known that George Herbert Walker Bush, otherwise known as the Poppy Bush, is a powerful member of that board.

This is what is happening to our country. We and our lives and the lives of our children and our grandchildren are being held hostage by the Bush family and their associates in groups like the Carlylse group who are virtually runningt this country without the consent of the people because they have the money and the power that comes with money and because of that have the connections worldwide to hold us all hostages to their wealth and power even though they, as is evidenced by the current ignoramus and stupid progeny of that
Bush, are too stupid to lead us.

Even if Kerry does get elected, that would not have much impact upon this powerful monied group.

'Fahrenheit 9/11' Turns on Box Office Heat

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Director Michael Moore's controversial documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" turned on the box office heat in its first day in theaters breaking single-day records at the two New York City theaters where it played.

*snip*

Online ticket service Fandango.com on Wednesday reported that "Fahrenheit 9/11" was making up 48 percent of advance ticket sales for the weekend ahead, compared to 11 percent for "Dodgeball" and 9 percent for next week's "Spider-Man 2"

Between this and the Clinton book sendoff, we are really looking foward to the Rethug Convention here in NYC!

10. Thats why I don't understand it.
Most documentaries people really don't care that much about. But this one is breaking records for single day sales in NYC. These theatres not showing it are going to miss out on a LOT of money.

but it's going wider. Last time I checked, I wasn't playing at all in Montana and today I checked and it's playing in Missoula and Bozeman...just not here in Billings...the STATE'S LARGEST CITY! :grr:
To be fair, Missoula and Bozeman are "liberal college towns." :eyes:

According to the Reuters link I have above. If it does well, and I believe it will, more theaters will pick it up.

15. Don't worry
It's already BROKEN THE RECORD for highest number of opening theaters for a documentary. There is a right-wing group, whose name escapes me, that is pressuring major theaters not to show it. I'd guess that's your problem

Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 09:09 PM by Dr Fate
The DVD will be for rent round October.

A fence-sitting type person is more likely to rent it to "see what this fuss is all about" than go to a ten dollar movie...

No worries!!

21. It's coming to Beaumont, TX
I was very pleasantly surprised to hear it was coming to my area; I figured I was going to have to make a trip to Houston to check it out. I think if it does very well in its first week, more theaters will pick it up for the simple reason that they're losing out on profits by avoiding it...

24. ANSWER: There's only around 1000 prints available currently
It's showing on just under 900 screens.

I've heard stories about theaters begging for prints. Supposedly, there are more on the way, and more theaters will be picking it up.

For reference purposes, the big commercial movies put out roughly 2-3000 prints for opening weekend.

other Gulf Coast counties, and NONE in Pinellas County (Clearwater, St. Pete). We are still trying to figure out how -- or who -- blocked the movie in Pinellas. They have a much larger population than Hillsborough.

Hopefully as the movie gains in popularity Pinellas will have to break down and start showing it.
