Obama leads Hillary by 20 in latest Newsweek national poll

Despite her campaign's relentless attacks on Barack Obama's qualifications and electability, Hillary Clinton has lost a lot of ground with Democratic voters nationwide going into Tuesday's critical primary in Pennsylvania, a new NEWSWEEK poll shows.

The survey of 1,209 registered voters found that Obama now leads Clinton by nearly 20 points, or 54 percent to 35 percent, among registered Democrats and those who lean Democratic nationwide. The previous Newsweek poll, conducted in March after Clinton's big primary wins in Ohio and Texas, showed the two Democrats locked in a statistical tie (45 percent for Obama to 44 percent for Clinton). The new poll puts Obama ahead among women as well as men, and voters aged 60 and older as well as younger voters.

One of the more devastating results for Clinton was that a majority of all registered voters now see her as dishonest and untrustworthy. According to the poll, just four in 10 (41 percent) registered voters view the New York senator as honest and trustworthy, while 51 percent think the opposite. This compares with solid majorities of voters who see Obama and McCain as honest and trustworthy (both polled 61 percent).


The results suggest that Clinton was damaged more by being caught in a tall tale about landing in Bosnia under sniper fire than Obama has been by his recent controversies, including the firestorm of criticism provoked by the Illinois senator's remarks that blue-collar voters "cling" to religion, guns and other issues because of their bitterness. In addition, over half (53 percent) of voters say they believe Obama shares their values, more than those who say the same thing about Clinton (47 percent) or McCain (45 percent).

32. What worries me most about the debate is the RW frame...

Time and again we heard from the Beltway analysts, who by and large defended ABC, was "this is what Obama can expect from the GOP." Is MSM admitting to something about its leanings, or are they just following standard RW frames in this election before even being asked? Didn't Staph get his prompting from Callamity Hannity?

Wallowing in obvious bias is one thing; carrying the GOP slop bucket is over the top.

If there's anything that I know it's that American voters like to jump on the bandwagon. So even though this is a national poll, some people will still see this an put their chips in with who looks like they'll be the winner.

But for me personally, I like to set expectations low and when they are exceeded I'll be happy.

36. I am in that statistical group... between March and April - this past week or so...

...I was undecided after Edwards left the race. But between 'bittergate' and that disgusting ruse of a "debate", I've gone completely into the Obama side. Bittergate did it for me - it became sharply clear to me that Hillary was playing Republican politics - and was IN bed with the Republicans (McSame) on that non-issue. THEN there was that rediculous "debate" which was obviously a set-up between her and her former employee (snuffaluffagus), the lamestream media, Repig talking heads, and by proxy, McSame - to gangbang Obama on rediculous, meaningless crap instead of discussing real issues that the country faces right now.

I expect that type of treatment of a Democrat from Repigs - but NOT from another Democrat. If she'd do that to be President, if she'd stoop THAT low, then I don't want her in there. THAT is just the type of 'Low' we've been putting up with for years from Republicans. She really showed her a** now.

So I got totally disgusted with Clinton - and YEP - BITTER - it all just gave me SOMETHING ELSE to be BITTER about.

Dog knows what slime they'll pump out this weekend before the PA primary to get Obama. We KNOW THEY'LL STOP AT NOTHING - just like any Republican - to "win". The woman has no credibility and no respect from me now - and certainly no trust.

And furthermore, Obama was right re: bitter. And Hillary just added to it. Again. So, I'm supporting Obama.

Like I said, these polls are all over the place. I don't know if it's bias or poor methodology or what. I am just saying you can't tout a 20% difference as definitive then dismiss a 3% difference as faulty.

If you are looking at trends for your answer, I would note that Clinton has trended up over the last four days and Obama down during the same period in the Gallup poll.
