BREAKING: Newsweek Poll - Obama leads Clinton by 20 points
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 04:15 PM by powergirl
This poll was conducted after the debate. GO OBAMA!!! On edit by powergirl: This will take the wind out of the Clinton talking points. They were so proud of b eing 3 points away from Obama in a daily national poll. Whatever!

"Despite her campaign's relentless attacks on Barack Obama's qualifications and electability, Hillary Clinton has lost a lot of ground with Democratic voters nationwide going into Tuesday's critical primary in Pennsylvania, a new NEWSWEEK poll shows.

"The survey of 1,209 registered voters found that Obama now leads Clinton by nearly 20 points, or 54 percent to 35 percent, among registered Democrats and those who lean Democratic nationwide. The previous Newsweek poll, conducted in March after Clinton's big primary wins in Ohio and Texas, showed the two Democrats locked in a statistical tie (45 percent for Obama to 44 percent for Clinton). The new poll puts Obama ahead among women as well as men, and voters aged 60 and older as well as younger voters. (For the complete poll data, click here).

"One of the more devastating results for Clinton was that a majority of all registered voters now see her as dishonest and untrustworthy. According to the poll, just four in 10 (41 percent) registered voters view the New York senator as honest and trustworthy, while 51 percent think the opposite. This compares with solid majorities of voters who see Obama and McCain as honest and trustworthy (both polled 61 percent)."

(cut)

Obama also has more support from independent voters and

"But by a large margin (55 percent to 33 percent) Democratic voters now say Obama—not Clinton—is the candidate they believe is more likely to defeat McCain in November."

I was watching Fingergate on MSNBC when they broke the story
They were actually goofing on fingergate and all the commentators agreed (including a Repub) that Obama was way to smart and too classy to flick off his opponent on TV.

or do you think it might be because she honestly believes she is the best person to take on John McCain in the fall? we need to stop calling each other evil and focus on the real enemy, John McCain.

Edited on Sat Apr-19-08 08:22 AM by mrone2
by that time America will be well on its way to once again becoming a beacon for fairness and compassion in a socially progressive enlightened society. By that time, conservative DLC ways will appear far too regressive and out of touch effectively negating any hopes of a Hillary run in 2016. That's my prediction anyway. Now if you run someone like Rachel Maddow in 2016 you can sign me up for her campaign.

75. I was going with the electing a woman theme
as Hillary supporters always seem to insist that if you don't support their candidate, you're a misogynist - period. There is never any middle ground in realizing that it isn't anything against "women" in general, just "that particular" woman. If Rachel Maddow were running today I'd vote for her in a heartbeat.

13. About an hour ago, a Clinton poster was claiming victory
when she was 3 points away from Obama in a NATIONAL daily poll. You and I both know it's always better to be 20 points ahead nationwide in a poll. And since last time I checked, Pennsylvania was in this nation, it includes those voters.

It's all about Pennsylvania, and then it'll be all about North Carolina, and then it'll be all about Puerto Rico, and then it'll be all about the superdelegates, and then it'll be all about pledged delegates who aren't really pledged.

I thought it was pretty clear.

But in the "vote by states" category, Obam is way ahead there too.

In fact, he's ahead in every category. Start accepting that he is going to win and get behind the nominee.

Perhaps?

15. All that is left is formalities and cheating.
People are tired of her and her supporters' LYING BULLSHIT. She was BOOED by union workers in Pittsburgh on Monday. BOOED.

New, undeclared SuperD's are announcing support for Obama at a rate of nearly 1 a day.
Previous Hillary SuperD's are switching to Obama or hedging their bets by saying they will vote for whoever is ahead at the end.
Her lead in Pennsylvania has slipped away. She will not win by the margin she needs to remain viable.
She's now BEHIND in Indiana AND North Carolina.
Only 30% of the American people find her trustworthy.

If she had won this race outright, fairly, playing by the rules - I would support her 100% in the general.

But the only way for her to win now is by cheating or slander.

And she'll try. She's going to unleash some nasty slanderous thing against him, probably on Monday. But it will fail. When only 30% of the public find you trustworthy, the only people that will believe that tripe are the people that have believed you about all your other lies.

She's going to say he did not win legitimately because of MI or FL. Maybe there will be a lawsuit? But Mr. Dean will quash it. MI and FL will be seated... at the end. She doesn't have a leg to stand on and the party won't allow breaking of the rules for her.

Any other dirty tricks you got? Bring them on. We're ready for you.

None of us are going to allow another politician to swoop in and lie, cheat and steal their way to victory. Not again. Not this time. We are witnessing a revolution here, people. A revolution demanding what is right and what is fair. We have righteous anger going for us and we have a motivated populace. That is an incredible combination.

78. Dirty tricks and slander
On one hand I find these tactics to be totally repugnant...but on the other, they could be of some benefit. I mean, in the end when Obama is the nominated candidate, what more will the Republican slime machine have to throw at him that hasn't already been thrown and dealt with?

Not much.

That should pretty much make them (and McCain) look desperate and nasty.

Maybe at the end of it all, the only thing that hasn't been thrown at Obama would be allegations of pedophilia. But seeing as he's a Democrat (they may philander but at least it's with adult women) that shouldn't even be a worry. :7

42. different questions
The Newsweek poll, as I understand it, doesn't ask who you support, but rather who you think has a better chance of winning the GE. Comparing that poll's results with the results of polls that show a narrow preference for Obama over Clinton among Democrats suggests that there are a number of HRC supporters who recognize that Obama has a better shot in the GE but nonetheless still prefer HRC. To give this group the benefit of the doubt, I assume that they aren't lemmings, but rather that they think HRC will win, but maybe not as easily as Obama would.

But he does seem to be up in PA by a lot. Rasmussen and Zogby have him within 4 points of Hillary and those polls were done after the debate.

I have my fingers crossed, how awesome would it be for this to end next Tuesday?

72. I love the Newsweek poll numbers;
I'd be ecstatic if I hadn't heard the Gallup poll numbers at the same time.

Gallup Daily: Clinton Moves Within 3 Points of Obama
http://www.gallup.com/poll/106630/Gallulp-Daily-Clinton-Moves-Within-Points-Obama.aspx

I, like you, have my fingers crossed, but will hold off on the joy-jumping until we get more info.

How awesome for it to end Tuesday? It would be very(200x) awesome for it to end next Tuesday!

I credit the internet, and the new generation of leadership.

Gallup and Rasmussen have Obama up by 3 and 5 over the same time period. Obama has never lead by this much. GE/NBC supports him because he is going to bring back the nuclear energy industry. Dean has told the SDs to choose someone and now Newsweek/MSNBC has this incredibly 20 pt lead?

This smells like last week's sushi.

83. If these pollsters have found a way to factor in the cell phone user demographic
that is younger, isn't included in land line phone surveys, and is more prone to support Obama, then it's probably quite accurate. And even within its margin of error, Hillary is left in the dust. If anything it's indicative of a trend -- that Hillary's slipping away at an "alarming" rate.

67. a national poll with only 1200 participants?
That's 24 people per state. And national elections are decided on a state by state basis. That doesn't seem like a large enough sample group to base anything on.

82. Yes it is, within its margin of error
For any state poll, 24 responses would be too small of a sample size, but for a national poll it's more than an adequate representation, albeit of land line phone users. Since exclusive cell phone users tend to be demographically younger and likely more inclined to support Obama over Clinton, these results might be slightly skewed in Hillary's favor.

Apparently Hillary was advised to take it as negative as possible.

77. Same poll shows both beating McLame
Among all registered voters, including Republicans, she did about as well as Obama against McCain. Obama bests McCain by 4 points (48 percent to 44 percent), and Clinton also wins by 4 points (47 to 43 percent).

This "poll" did manage to inject a RW (and now.. LW) bobble head talking point....

One of the more devastating results for Clinton was that a majority of all registered voters now see her as dishonest and untrustworthy.
