3. Do you know what's funny?
I'm always battling myself about this. Sometimes I think Obama is very handsome, then I think of the 'skinny kid with big ears' quote he self-attributed. Then, I listen to him, and I think he's gorgeous!

That kid might see Obama as President and think that he can do something with his life and not end up in prison like an overwhelming percentage of black men in America. Who knows, that young man might be President too.

31. That was an incredible movie about an Old Man bonding with his young Grandaughter without Pedophilia
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 06:28 PM by KoKo01
I loved the book...had many "older men in my life" who gave me great advice and books to read and helped me get on with my life with their "wisdom of elders."

I feel sad that there's so much out there these days about "older men seducing and sullying their relatives and others." There are very many older men...who are kind and nurturing and care so much about their grandchildren that the "bad apples so prevalent in our Media" kind of take away from the folks that for many of us were INSPIRATIONS and gave meaning and hope and continuity to our lives...as little ones.

I hope that we don't put all "Elders" in some kind of pedophile manipulative mode...and keep our little kids away from "oldies" because of fear of them...as dirty "old men and perverted women."

It would be sad if our culture cut off those who want to share...and have wisdom to impart to the very youngest. I profited from it....they were good to me...and NOT ONE..EVER...EVER...tried to "violate" my person/Me..... Just throwing this out to think about.

BTW: ...this is the "Heidi Movie" I'm familiar with after I read the book. It was played over and over on Tee Vee in the 50's and 60's and most folks have seen it.. It's not as accurate a presentation as Spryi's novel...but it was for little folks watching who hadn't read the book...a comforting view.

24. He's not gorgeous but he is appealing
and there is something vulnerable about him that I think makes him easy to like.

I can't imagine people not liking him unless they are projecting their own 'stuff' onto him. And while I could identify with what he said about his grandmother feeling some fear toward black men (and I've felt that on occasions) there is something very non-threatening about Obama, like you'd expect him to be that doctor or teacher or pastor that you could really trust.

37. yes he said it in the speech about his pastor
I think for whites raised in an isolated suburban or rural area most of the women feel this way- I can't say exactly how its transmitted. My family moved out of Chicago to the all-white suburbs when I was 5 so even if nothing was ever said, the move is a statement. I lived in an integrated neighborhood in Chicago for 20 years as an adult, so my reaction is no longer the same. It took some conscious effort. Now I have to get used to white rednecks in Wisconsin.

Growing up biracial in a white family, and marrying a black woman, Obama has an exceptional awareness of all these issues... and I think his exceptional honesty about it is more than most people are ready for.

There once was a man named Barack
Who was against that dumb war in Iraq.
He huddled the masses,
and kicked all their asses,
And Republicans, now they can't walk.
