The ABC Debate wasn't biased toward one candidate or another. |
|
As an Obama supporter, I can say the debate was more about drama and trying to get a "headline" response from either candidate than it was favoritism toward one candidate or another.

2. I'll agree they fanned the flames wherever they came up |
|
But it was definitely at least 60-40 slanted against Barack. The only real Gotchas for Hillary, and they were big ones, were her admitting the sniper lie and agreeing Obama can win the GE (My favorite part).

11. He's the frontrunner and has had the most controversies (however lame) recently. |
|
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 07:58 PM by Infinite Hope
My problem with the debate is that they spent the first 40 minutes obsessing over drama rather than issues. I thought I was the only one noticing when it was 35 minutes in and they hadn't talked about one substantial issue. Than around 40 minutes into the debate, they finally left the petty drama behind. I never expected it to become the uproar it has become, though I'm thankful it has because ABC did a p*ss-poor job.

14. They weren't questions about the most recent controversies, though. They're old, |

already-covered, or irrelevant things.

17. Not all of America is like us. Most Americans don't have a clue about those issues. |
|
And so the media goes where the drama goes. That's the real problem with this all - they're focused on drama (aka: profits) rather than journalistic integrity.

9. I half agree with the OP |
|
The debate was designed to hurt Democrats... *all* Democrats. Even when they got to the issue questions, they used right wing framing to ask them.
The stupid questions at the beginning were there to put a spotlight on all these *issues* together so the WH would look unattainable for us.
BUT...
The stupid questions at the beginning *were* slanted against Obama. He got four questions out of silly season (Wright-gate, bitter-gate, flag pins, and Ayers), while she only got one (sniper-gate).

It was designed to damage the Democrats. Think of the McCain misstatements and screw ups in the last month. How long did they report on those. It's the repetition that makes the imprint on voters.

Did you study the fact that they're part of conglomorates that have financial interests in areas that conflict with thier duty to "serve the public interests"?

Corporations want to see profits, and are far more interested in attracting eyeballs than in promoting a particular brand of politics. Everyday, media organizations across the country are accused of being too liberal, too conservative, too left, too right, etc. So - exactly where do the collective "media" actually lie (as in rest?)

That was a scandal that actually had policy implications. A two for one question.
Why did you hire a lead strategist take money to help out the Colombia government's position on free trade that was directly the opposite of your position.
This happened well after Wright or flag lapel pin gate.
This proves it wasn't a fair onslaught. That question was more relevant than any Obama question.
