If you could hold a debate...
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 08:21 PM by ColbertWatcher
...yesterday, I asked my fellow DUers to post questions they would like to have asked at a debate between our candidate and the GOP's.

Now I see Olbermann suggesting 8 questions he would like to hear Stephanopolous ask McCain this Sunday.

The original post is here.

Some of the questions posted in the original thread were:

From DUer Kurovski:

"If there is evidence of criminal behavior found within the previous administration,

as many within the country and around the world believe, and most specifically as it relates to the lead up to the Iraq war, what would be your reaction, and how would you proceed?"

From DUer rug:

"Do you retain a preemptive strike on Iran as an option?"

From DUer TexasObserver:

Do you believe Republicans stole votes in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections?

From DUer NC_Nurse:

Outline your plan for improving our healthcare system and extending

affordable healthcare coverage to all citizens who want or need it - including those with pre-existing conditions.

From DUer HawkeyeX:

Will you be implementing a tax on war profiteers - say 200% tax, and freezing all of the profiteers' assets?

Also, will you be reversing NAFTA to help Americans regain their jobs and order all companies to offer a living wage?

Will you be raising the COLA for Social Security by about 200% to ensure that the disabled can pay down their debts?

If you have any other questions you would like to see on a debate, please post them in reply.

I have no way to get this to anyone, but maybe we can create a buzz for the next debate.

Rules:
* it doesn't matter which Democratic candidate you support, make the question so that it can be asked of either
* keep the questions in reality, none of this "According to Tinfoilhats.com, an anonymous poster on conspiracies r us.org said, etc, etc."
* speaking of which, no conspiracy crap, ABC covered that at the last debate, and FOX covers it on a daily basis. We're liberals, we can be adults and ask serious questions about important issues.
* no "tabloid-type" or sensationalist questions
* in addition to questions, if you would like to see a certain moderator, post that
* or, if you would like to see it on a certain network
* also, include any "debate" rules you would like to see followed.

impact on the average American citizen?

2. Currently many Americans are facing unemployment and/or underemployment. What is your plan to stimulate employment for American workers?

3. We're facing a record deficit. What are your plans to help regain control of our borrowing and balance our spending?

4. We're currently bogged down in a quagmire in Iraq which we have neither the financial nor the physical resources to sustain. What's your views regarding committing US military forces to regime changes in countries perceived to be hostile to the US's interest in the future?

That's just a few things I think most average Americans would appreciate straight answers to.

7. Will you pledge to discontinue the Executive Branch war on science?
Edited on Fri Apr-18-08 10:03 PM by SoonerPride
This covers Stem Cell Research, Evolution, Climate Science (global warming) and many other topics where the Bush Administration flaunts all scientific evidence that is contrary to their pre-conceived ideological viewpoint.

8. The strange thing about this is...
...how it really isn't just a war on science but a plan to control technology.

Like alternative fuels, telecommunications technology, genetic therapies, etc.

The GOP prevents the teaching of science to the next generation of scientists, who will then be less informed than the lawyers protecting corporate interests.

12. It now appears that diverting food for biofuel is going to have a dramatic impact on world wide food
prices. There have been food riots in Bengladesh and Haiti as people see food costs soar to 50% of their income. What do you propose to do about it?

18. What would you do about....
the Defense budget..and the enormous power that has been centered in the Pentagon with no over-sight and no accountability for money spent on secret operations? How much of the workings of our government is outsourced to global corporations, and why is that? What do you think about Private Military Corporations and their role in the military? What can be done about media conglomeration?
