Wow, Imagine this scenario
where the electoral votes are 269/269 between the Democratic nominee & McBush, then the House would select the President...Very unlikely in my opinion, but nonetheless, a possibility....

"With Obama as the nominee, the electoral college at the moment is Obama 260 to McCain 254 with 24 ties. With Hillary Clinton as the nominee, it is Clinton 289 to McCain 239 with 10 ties. Thus for the moment, her argument that she is more electable is true. Her strength is that she wins Florida and Ohio although he offsets this by winning Missouri, which she loses. Also, he puts Colorado and North Carolina in play. If Obama were to win Colorado and McCain were to win North Carolina, they would each have 269 electoral votes and the new House would choose the President. For the maps and details, click on the Obama vs. McCain and Clinton vs. McCain links above.

sings randi theme tune * da nah da nana nah nah nah nah nah* The whole AAR thing has worked out so well in the end. A few stump speeches from Randi and it could provide a new elctoral map.

2. In which case McCain wins
Each state gets one vote when the House chooses the President, and there are more republican states.

3. Yeah, but the House will almost certainly be controlled by Democrats
with a comfortable margin, and so that should offset the states that vote (Kerry won about 20 states in 2004)..Are you sure the states vote, I think the 535 members in the House select the POTUS, no?

5. no, each state gets one vote
but that doesn't necessarily mean that McCain would win. Take, for instance, New Mexico, it could go repuke, but it's delegation may contain more dems than pukes, and they could vote for the dem. Same goes for other states.

4. It's pretty difficult to say one way or the other

if Obama or Clinton will be more compeitive in terms of polls. Some of those polls are outdated. For example the one from Texas is almost 2 months old. Some of the other states, like the ones that have primaries coming up, probably have more accurate numbers as they are actively polling right now. People should keep in mind we have 7 1/2 months until the election.

I am sure Obama can win Michigan and PA. Ohio will take a lot of work, but it is possible. Florida would be tough. I think he's more likely to flip Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico. If he can get a combination of those states he has a good shot.
