Those hard working middle Americans greeting the Pope surely do not look bitter to me.
In fact they look the direct opposite of Obama's lies - - they are not clinging to their faith - - they are rejoicing in their beloved church.

1. I don't see many of them rejoicing in any of their daughters in the priesthood,
however.

The Church's policy against the ordination of women in a time when there are grievous shortages of priests is blatant sexism with absolutely no moral or historic justification.

7. Try sticking to the point, Maribelle. The Church forbids the ordination
of women.

Get your head around that for a second.

Now come back to the problem at hand. A woman can be president if she's elected by popular mandate but a woman cannot serve God as a priest because she's a woman.

Are you having trouble sticking to the topic of this op? Please feel free to start your own thread about bashing Catholics, or whatever.

dismissing Obama on false claims.

But given that you are the author of the OP, that is of course unsurprising.

27. I'm pleased that the Pope drew a crowd. Who doesn't like a big public
event?

Half the world's Catholics are barred from ordination because of their gender.

You might consider that before using the Pope's public relations profile as a tool to attack Obama. It isn't working.

45. The Catholic Church offers neither to women in its fold.
Edited on Sat Apr-19-08 09:34 AM by Old Crusoe
If a woman cannot administer the sacraments then there's no reason to have faith in Jesus' trust in Mary Magdalen. Apostolic succession as a criterion for priesthood is realized in her model.

If you are willing to cancel her out, then you can use the goddam Pope for any purpose you please, including dismissing Obama, but it ain't sellin'.

they turn to things like RELIGION, ALCOHOL, DRUGS or whatever in order to escape the bitterness.

for example, when someone is high on drugs or alcohol they APPEAR to be 'happy' on the surface, but only because the drugs and the alcohol (or the religion) is masking the bitterness underneath.

are you just picking particular pieces that you think will help your argument.

As I understood this (and I think I've said it a hundred times at this point) he's talking about these are the ISSUES people cling to when they see that the government will never change. These are the type of issues that divide us, gay marriage, "morals", guns, religion, ect...not the physical clinging of guns and religion. I'm a rural voter, and I get what he was saying.

You are free to believe any version you choose.

But that is one of Obama's biggest problems to me, he comes out with five of six versions of too many things, like his relationship with Rezko.

we are angry, we are bitter, and we've had enough. And the people that have given up any hope for any change stick to the issues that divide us and don't bring us together.

If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention. And if you are outraged, and you are an activist, HRC just condemned you.

Obama wasn't my first choice, Kucinich was, and once we got down to the final two, I was left with no choice but Obama.

OP's like yours (saying Obama lied) does not help HRC supporters in any way. He didn't lie, he was flat out honest and to the point. Some people just can't handle the truth. They take it as a slap in the face when we know damned well it's what most of us have been thinking for years.

"You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not."

"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

when people are BITTER they tend to turn toward something which makes them HAPPY,
in order to escape the bitterness. Hence, they turn to God, alcohol, or whatever.

So obviously these people are going to APPEAR to be happy when the are greeting the Pope.

It's like pointing to a drunk person and saying 'see look, there's nothing wrong with that guy, he looks perfectly happy!'

63. You're making so many assumptions in one little post
Yes, they appear to be rejoicing; that's legitimate. But there's no way to tell if they're bitter or not. And I'd bet just a few of them are.

65. In my op I clearly stated 'do not look'.
Sometimes I believe Skinner should require permission slips from parents before Obama followers are allowed to post.

( just kidding )

... when the Wal*Mart that opened in the Bronx put all of the owner-operated stores in Manhatten out of business, I guess.

72. From the film clips and photos, we can't really tell that these
Americans greeting the Pope are hard working middle Americans. They very well may be affluent upper Americans who had the money and position that enabled them to take time off from their employment in the middle of a work week to visit.

They may even be hard working upper class, who did not gain any wealth via inheritance or privilege, but instead worked well over the 'normal' 40 hours per week to attain whatever wealth they may have.

I just love making up stories about things I see on the news, stories that may have absolutely no basis in fact. Don't you?

and as he struggled in Pa generally then I don't see Obama having a hope in hell come November.

Luckily though he stands a better chance overall of winning then a certain someone who is absolutely loathed by more than half the country.

91. 51% wins most elections
and Obama may be "liked" but will people vote for him for president in November? Truth is - I don't know. I would certainly hope so. But I am by no means certain. You should not be either.

I'm not surprised they don't "look" bitter when seeing, likely for the first and only time in their lives, the head of their church.

Just as I'm sure they wouldn't "look" bitter when they see their son or daughter perform in a school play.

87. Doesn't follow...
That's a GNS (Galloping Non Sequitur). Senator Obama didn't say that people don't rejoice in their faith, as a matter of fact, he said that when things get tough people draw their faith even more tightly around themselves.

cling

as a verb

1. to adhere closely; stick to.

2. to hold tight, as by grasping or embracing; cleave.

3. to be or remain close.

You know about as much about what words mean as you do about economics.

101. Um, Obama Was Specifically Talking About People Who Lost Their Jobs And How They View Politics
People do get bitter and they decide that politics is a bunch of corruption and doubletalk, so they focus narrowly on a handful of issues like abortion, gun control or gay marriage.

Keep in mind that a large part of Bush's massive turnout in 2004 was due to the large numbers of gay marriage ballots set up by Karl Rove and the RNC across the nation.

I'm saying of all of this as if you were going to approach the issue honestly, but I'm not sure why I'm bothering after re-reading your post.
