Like Senate in F9/11, Nader also rejects Congressional Black Caucus pleas
Edited on Sun Jun-27-04 09:23 AM by LoZoccolo
I found the scene where the Senate is rejecting the pleas of the members of the Congressional Black Caucus to be very powerful, and to be the first point in the movie where it's established that the film is going to drive home some very serious messages that the general public hasn't seen much of before.

Yesterday I recalled that Nader also rejected the Congressional Black Caucus' pleas for him to drop out of the race:

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/nationworld/bal-te.caucus23jun23,0,6090530.story?coll=bal-nationworld-headlines

"We let him know that we consider this to be the most important election of our lifetimes," said the caucus' chairman, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, a Baltimore Democrat. "We said, 'Mr. Nader, you have a right to run, but we have not heard a reason to run.' We said to him, 'If you're really our friend ... you need to move on.'"

1. I think with the Green's dissing Ralph...
we may start to see a little cooperation. In fact, this may do him in. He has little cash, and he will finish this race in an embarrassing way if he continues.
It has been said he is in it for his ego...he wanted to garner more votes than 2000. Between those who won't be fooled again, and now the loss of the Green party nomination (and the 22 states ballots) he's gotta' be thinking real hard what to do.

2. Indeed, I made the same connection. Though the Senate support would have
been *futile* at the time (because the Republican controlled house would have decided our presidency had they backed the objections) Nader's slap in the face is another story altogether.

Sorry for the run on sentence. ;)

3. I've thought about the consequences of Senate support
And as I recall the constitution mandates that the House gets to choose anyway. If anything could've actually been done to stop Bush from being put in office, we all know that Ted Kennedy would've been up there with the CBC in a heartbeat. I think that Gore asked the senators not to contest because it wouldn't have done any good and would've been a bad political move. The only thing that I think it could've done is further push Bush's illegitimacy by making the House "elect" him.

4. Well even if a senator signed
it would have just been an objection. It wouldn't have kept Bush from being sworn in or anything. It was more of a protest vote.

5. Exactly, I do wish Moore had pointed this out in the film, but it would
have been less dramatic ;)

But, I loved F911 anyhow!
