The Pope, while forced to join the Hitler Youth and serve in the military, just wasn't a very good Nazi. He wasn't very enthusiastic, and didn't show up for meetings. And when he was later drafted into the German military, he deserted near the end of the war. He didn't drink any of the Nazi Kool-Aid.

Bill Ayers, did willingly join the Weather Underground, but didn't personally join in any violence, and in the end, after he turned himself in, all charges against him were dropped because of prosecutorial misconduct. Then he went to earn his doctorate and served honorably as a member of the University of Illinois faculty.

Not that I agree with much of Pope Benedict XVI's current views, and I don't think Weather Underground-style violence is an acceptable tactic...
