I have spent a fair amount of time criticizing MoveOn but this statement by Hillary just stuns me. Is she really this stupid? Why would she want to alienate the millions of MoveOn members?
Wow, just wow.
"Moveon.org endorsed Sen. Barack Obama -- which is like a gusher of money that never seems to slow down," Clinton said to a meeting of donors. "We have been less successful in caucuses because it brings out the activist base of the Democratic Party. MoveOn didn't even want us to go into Afghanistan. I mean, that's what we're dealing with. And you know they turn out in great numbers. And they are very driven by their view of our positions, and it's primarily national security and foreign policy that drives them. I don't agree with them. They know I don't agree with them. So they flood into these caucuses and dominate them and really intimidate people who actually show up to support me."
You know what, Hillary? There weren't any MoveOn folks at my caucus, no one from MoveOn contacted me and encouraged me to go and no one from MoveOn told me who to support at the caucus. Yet we still chose Barack Obama. How do you explain that, Hillary? Some OTHER vast conspiracy to deprive you of the nomination you think you deserve? You are really losing it woman. Time for a looonnng vacation.

5. But even if MoveOn members were the base of Obama's support, |
|
this is really a stupid thing for her to say. Since MoveOn has such a huge membership, and no one would argue that the majority of MoveOn members are either Democrats or lean Democrat, why wouldn't Hillary want to reach out to them for their support? It's really stupid of her to piss off MoveOn. And like I said, I have had my own issues with MoveOn, but I sure recognize their power and if it comes down to a MoveOn VS Hillary battle, I am with MoveOn.

Rove's smears. She's gambling that she can get more votes from the right than the 3 MM she loses by throwing MoveOn under her campaign bus.

If we can get at least 45% of all the votes in PA, this might end soon.

The comment about Afghanistan really gets to me. Yes, Hillary, some of us (lots of us actually) opposed the war on Afghanistan.

10. Talk about trying to intimidate people at the caucuses! Bill Clinton went to the caucuses in Nevada |
|
and stood there, in person, shaking hands of startled voters and chatting them up as they were on their way in!!
I remember being really ticked about that because I didn't think he should have been allowed to do that, for the same reason that, on election day, no one is allowed to proselytize or campaign at the polling places. I've never heard a word of criticism about this fact, but Hillary's 'whining' in the above-quoted article reminded me.
And, no, she doesn't want to alienate millions of MoveOn supporters; obviously, she did not count on this information getting out.
Think again, Sybil.

3.2 members, many of whom are not in lockstep. They could only get 500,000 of those to sign the anti-war petition!
In contrast, the Democratic Party has 72 million members.

16. A lot of us in the antiwar movement refused to sign MoveOn's petition. |
|
In fact I got more emails telling me not to sign it than I got from MoveOn asking me to sign it. I got phone calls too.
As for a statement that was not meant to be repeated, she is running for president. I wouldn't think anything she says should be viewed as something that won't be repeated.

31. Don't Worry - Its Hillary's Poltical Brilliance |
|
Remember when Bill Clinton attack Sista Soulja during the 1992 Presidential Campaign? This move was risky, because it was an appeal to caucasion votes at the expense of African Americans. I think Hillary's attack on Moveon.org is similar. Hillary is appealing to centrist and conservative voters by attacking Moveon.org. I think an even more effective move during the general election would be for her to advocate some anti-immigration platform like making entering into the country illegally a felony. This will appeal to those Americans who blame immigrants for the loss jobs and benefits due to competition from lower undocumented workers. Again, its classic triangulation that will bring the Democrats back to the whitehouse.
