Hmmm, what to think about this development?
Early last week there was publicity about
Senator Clinton appearing in Allentown this Sunday
for a rally at the Allentown Fair Grounds.

Yesterday, the announcement was that Senator Clinton
would be appearing in neighboring Bethlehem at the
Liberty High School..

Got me thinking....

Allentown Fairgrounds are expansive.. the venue is an old style
race track with huge grandstand, stage, outbuildings
and lots of space. We attended a Kerry rally there
in '04.

The Liberty High School is... a high school auditorium.

What's going on?

10. Yes
The fairgrounds is reserved for large rallies. 5000 plus. The Lehigh Valley has about 790,000 people in it.

They must not have gotten a good enough crowd for the fairgrounds.

You know what I love the most about this. Her volunteers will all be at the rally 3 days before election day and not doing work!

5. You're not clear
Are you saying she's going to a smaller venue, or that she's now going to two places?

6. What's going on
Is that they are having trouble filling the seats IMO. I got a 2 robocalls and 2 emails about this event. Normally when the candidate comes they put a blurb in the paper and people show up.

Either that or she's trying to look herself look impressive with an overflow area.

Why not make the event look full, and not empty.

11. Bad credit. They probably didn't want to get stiffed & Clinton had to go with what she could afford.
Fairgrounds probably wanted to get paid up front.

13. Sounds familiar
A few weeks ago Obama was in Eugene, Oregon, at the University of Oregon sports arena which held a raising the rafters crowd of 9,000. Standing room only, with an overflow crowd of 3,ooo outside. A couple of weeks later Hilary Clinton also went to Eugene, only she appeared at a high school auditorium which held 3,000. This leads me to believe that she tends to draw a smaller crowd. The Obama rally was enthusiastic to say the least. Hilary's seemed a bit on the more subdued side.

14. The fairground people would not take her IOU for facility use??
Edited on Sat Apr-19-08 04:38 PM by rainbow4321
And the school would? Given her track record for not paying school districts for use of their facilities (as seen on her monthly FEC debt list month after month), it will basically be those local taxpayers footing her the bill for the appearance.

17. After Obama's big blowout rally...
...in PA--I don't think she can afford to set up big venues, and have a low turnout.

35,000 turned out for Obama.

If she has an event at a venue that could hold that many people--but only 2,000 show up--that won't bode
well for her.

A gymnasium packed with a few hundred supporters is better than a bigger venue with lots of breathing room.

19. Is this near LeHigh Valley? If so, she hasn't campaigned there yet
and her supporters are worried. Maybe she waited too late to go there?

22. I don't know
Edited on Sat Apr-19-08 05:20 PM by Jake3463
I'm from here and an event 2 days before the election is risky. You'll get media coverage and all but your taking your volunteers and having them at the event all day to see you or working it. Most people watch the Philly news out here and not our one independent local channel so I'm not sure what she's hoping to accomplish.

She's pretty much giving up on her Sunday GOTV efforts. Probably doing phone calls from out of town. After my 3rd robo call if I don't recognize the number to my land line. I don't pick it up.

20. I'd say her campaign decided they can't afford the fairgrounds.
But then I realized they just wouldn't bother paying for it anyway. So I'm not sure.
