"New politics": Obama assails Clinton's character
More broad-based smear from "hope and change."

"She's taken different positions at different times on issues as fundamental as trade, or even the war, to suit the politics of the moment. And when she gets caught at it, the notion is, well, you know what, that's just politics. That's how it works in Washington. You can say one thing here and say another thing there."

"Senator Clinton's essential argument in this campaign is you can't change how the game is played in Washington. Her basic argument is that the slash-and-burn, say-anything, do-anything special interest-driven politics is how it works.... Senator Clinton has internalized a lot of the strategies, the tactics, that have made Washington such a miserable place."

"She's got the kitchen sink flying and the china flying, the buffet is coming at me ... constant distractions, these petty, trivial, slash and burn, back and forth, tit for tat, politics."

3. That is the "new politics." It's a totally new game.
It is fitting that Obama and his "new politics" should be pitted against Hillary, possibly the one person besides Karl Rove who has a complete mastery of "old politics."

5. How true.
Hillary will try anything, and still lose. It's sad really that she doesn't have more self-respect.

15. He is describing what she is doing - and describing it well
Edited on Sat Apr-19-08 05:36 PM by karynnj
If you think it reflects badly on her character, you should first look to see if it is true - and if it is - and you consider that the actions are wrong - rethink your opinion on HRC. My opinion of them changed - not because of Edwards saying that she was corrupt and at a different time that she had no conscience. They didn't change when the RW attacked them. I was not moved when Obama spoke. I only slightly shifted my position when Kerry spoke well of her - even as he has been an Obama surrogate. My opinion has been driven by what they themselves have said and done.

This is a strawman argument and a particularly stupid one at that:

- Obama says he wants "new politics" away from the slash and burn politics - here he called her on what she did. He did not dig up all the buried Clinton baggage. So, 1 he is not being inconsistent

- 2) Clinton supporters are equating ANY fighting back to be "not new politics - so he loses". However, we both know that if he ignored it - it would be "He doesn't fight back - so he loses". No one else wants to play that Clinton wins/Obama loses game.

16. GOOD, it's about time...
since when does "new politics" mean just allowing yourself to be attacked and never fighting back.

23. Well, where's the smear...
Goddamn it I came in here to see a good smear of Clinton...well where is it!

Like the joke:

A new immigrant comes to the US, hails a taxi. Gets in and tells the driver in a Swedish accent where she wanted to go.

Driver: "You're not from around here are you?"
immigrant: "No, I am from Sweden"
Driver: "Welcome, let me show you some sights of our city as we go"

He shows her the Empire state Building.

Driver: "You know in America, we call that a skyscraper"
Immigrant: "Ja, in Sweden we have this too." she giggles.

He shows her all the sights of New York, each time he said something, she would giggle and say "Ja, In Sweden we have this too"

They finally end up at Central Park:

Driver: "You know in America we call this a Park"
Immigrant: "Ja, in Sweden we have this too." She giggles

Well one thing led to another, and we next find our heroes getting back into the taxi cab after having a little afternoon delight in Central Park...

Driver: "You know, (wink wink) In America we call that a "Meat Sandwich""..
Immigrant: "Ja, in Sweden we have this too...(disappointment in her voice)but with a little more meat!"

25. They thought Obama's "new politics" would force him to stick to positive campaigning
and eschew negative attacks. So you can imagine the poutrage when Obama starts hitting them with this.
