Meet the Press on Hillary's umbrella of deterrence.
Tim Russert: What did you think of Hillary Clinton's "Umbrella of deterrence" saying that she would defend countries other than Israel who are attacked by Iran.

David Brooks: Well you asked the question. I am amazed like you may be that it didn't become a bigger issue.

What it says I think to a lot of Americans, if two Arab Countries or two Middle Eastern countries get in a war then we're going to get in the middle of it?

I think post Iraq this is the last place Americans want to be. Its a potentially wide open thing to say. I don't know why she would have said it, what policy thinking behind it was. It seems to me extremely perilous.

Michelle Norris: It doesn't seem like it would be post Iraq. We would probably still be engaged in Iraq, you know when this sort of dilemma would present itself.

E.J. Dionne: And the term "Massive Retaliation" is a pretty strong term that she used in the course of that debate.

1. at least they've started talking about it. I know Rachel Maddow hit upon it
but I'm glad to see that others took notice. A dangerous policy that needs a lot more scrutiny.

3. It scares the heck out of me.
I can't believe there isn't more focus on this. This is WORSE policy than going into Iraq. It presents the possibility of a whole host of Iraqs.

How big a military will this sort of commitment demand?

14. It's terrifying.
Any clinton supporter want to explain why this would be a good thing? I just don't see it.

2. Glad to see people talking about the comments.
The idea that we need to shield an entire region from war is beyond belief. That is like saying we ought to have prevented the Iran/Iraq war from happening.

None of our business Clinton.

8. We can export democracy without using our military.
Such as laptops filled with info being made cheap and sent to communities deep in regions where they keep their people uneducated to keep their power on them.

Good democracy can only happen when the people are educated. Military action will never work and Iraq proves that.

9. I don't understand why they haven't picked up on this.
I was pretty upset when E.J. Dionne decided he needed to change to subject back to his insider's assessment of PA.

I almost felt like he wanted to change the subject to save Hillary's butt.

11. Hillary wants to march into another war.
Stupid. I've even heard Wes Clark out there saying we need to "threaten" Iran. I marked him off my wish list for Obama's Veep.

I was horrified by the statement. But then I wasn't sure I had gotten it right or not.
