My parents just got a robocall inviting them to a Clinton event - and they live in New Jersey |
|
Something strange just happened. When we got back from our Passover seder, my parents had a robocall voice message inviting them to a rally with the Clintons at Penn in Philly tomorrow night. Didn't seem too odd at first, since I was at my grandparents' house in PA yesterday and they got one robocall from each campaign in the hour I was there. But then it just hit me - my parents live in New Jersey. They already voted for Obama on February 5th. Yes, they live in the Philadelphia metro area, but why would the Clinton campaign want to give up valuable space at a rally to people who have already voted? Are they having trouble getting enough PA voters to fill the room?
This isn't an attack, just an observation. I am curious if anyone else outside PA has gotten a call from either campaign inviting them to an event.

Ubuntu, because it's about the community? Gentoo, because it's about building from scratch? Redhat, because it's about establishing a reputation? Debian, because it's about making sure things are right the first time?

3. Didn't Obama just draw 40,000 in Philly? |
|
That might have something to do with it.

5. 35-40,000. That's probably true. |
|
And to be fair, I am sure there were people from New Jersey and Delaware and other places at the Philly rally too. My mom considered going. But it just seems strange that they would spend the money to robocall people in states that have already voted encouraging them to come...seems a little desperate. But maybe Obama has done this too in areas that were less friendly to him...I don't know.

It was a rather unenthusiastic Bill Clinton asking me to come "make history" with Hillary. Very weird.

Well, I live in Virginia now, but you get the point. Clinton did sound kind of unenthusiastic, now that I think about it.

But I don't know if Obama has done this too. I have not heard about it, but it could be happening.
Sending out e-mails to everyone in a local area about a rally, including out-of-staters, is one thing. It makes sense to send it to as wide of an audience as possible. But with robocalls, there is a cost-per-call, so it seems a little desperate if they had to pay to send robocalls to New Jersey to fill the room at a Philadelphia rally.

16. I didn't get an email or call from the Obama campaign for the Philly rally |
|
I was actually expecting one and was a bit disappointed that it never came lol. I did get an email for the Delaware rally, but that was because NJ and DE were both voting on Feb 5th.

Even if the rest of the news out of PA is not. I canvassed today and yesterday and found lots of supporters, but in areas I would expect to find support. I have no idea what to think, but the polls do not look good.

They got 2 robocalls in the hour that I was there. Interestingly, I don't think my aunt and uncle in Elkins Park got any in the 3 hours we were there.
