So first they leak it to Drudge, then they deny leaking it to Drudge?
Edited on Mon Apr-21-08 05:27 PM by yourguide
Ok, what is going on here? I assume they leaked the number because their internals are showing better than 11% but then why deny leaking it? Can someone offer any insight on this?

http://www.drudgereport.com/flashpa.htm

Controlled excitement is building inside of Clinton's inner circle as closely guarded internal polling shows the former first lady with an 11-point lead in Pennsylvania!

Clinton is polling near to nearly 2 to 1 over Obama in many regions of the state, a top insider explained to the DRUDGE REPORT.

A strong coalition of middle-class and religious voters has all but secured a Clinton victory Tuesday, with headline-making margins, the campaign believes.

"It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of how much," a senior campaign source said Monday morning.

Then on the conference call Wolfson categorically denies this:

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0408/Wolfson_on_Drudge_poll.html#comments

With Drudge reporting an internal Clinton poll said to have her up 11, Wolfson responds on a conference call with reporters:

The campaign "categorically den(ies) an obvious effort to raise our expectatons by somebody."

Wolfson and pollster Geoff Garin said the campaign didn't conduct a poll last night.

1. Maybe a later internal poll showed a reversal in support?

supporters from coming out in PA (assuming their own polling shows a single digit lead), and thats why they leaked that 11% number, seeming insurmountable.

Do they then turn around, protecting their backside, and deny the leak in case the results come in at single digits?

or simply do their internals show more than 12% and for whatever weird reason they deny the leak?

22. Wouldn't that actually ENCOURAGE Obama supporters?
It would me, if my candidate was down...

2. Do you think perhaps that Drudge made it up?
Also, your next to last sentence needs attention.

4. I think if he made it up...
he wouldnt have let it sit up there all day. For a fleeting moment the katie couric not getting a debate story was up there, then he changed it back to the 11% story - I wonder if someone called him about that?

12. It hurts Clinton by raising the expectation.
Your second to last line still needs attention.

8. Lets be honest for a sec.
1. HRC has a staffer assigned to work drudge specifically.

2. It was *shudders* the most visited news site on the web last month, whether we like it or not, it is a force in media

3. Not the first bit of info HRC has leaked to drudge.

10. Occam's Razor: Why would you raise your campaign's expectations the day before an election?

21. You seem to not understand managing expectations.
When Hillary is leading most public polls by an average of 8, you do not put out a poll that you have her winning by 12 ands have it connected to the campaign.

What I am saying is the original Drudge leak is bullshit. The denial is just that, a denial.

Which just confirms the stupidity of the campaign.

16. How is it not?
Look, considering how closely drudge works with the HRC campaign, if those numbers were false they would have had them yanked down. They are still up.

18. They work so closely with the Drudge campaign yet he had no porblem plugging these stories?
PENNSYLVANIA FRENZY...

Obama flush with money to spend; Clinton in debt...

Obama: 'I'm not predicting a win'... PAPER: It's looking grim - but Clinton won't exit...

Whoopi Goldberg: 'Democrats are an elitist group'...

CHELSEA STOPS TRAFFIC ON GAY BAR CRAWL: 'I grabbed her ass'...

GALLUP Daily: Obama Regains Lead Over Clinton, 49% to 42%...

Seriously if they work so closely with Drudge how come he went ahead on pushed these stories?

http://mediamatters.org/issues_topics/tags/matt_drudge (this will have more than just Jillary)

"if those numbers were false they would have had them yanked down. They are still up.

Because Drudge is all about honesty :eyes:

however it is a known fact that HRCs campaign has someone assigned to him, it's how that crappy turban photo got thrown around.

23. At least get your smears right
1) The Clinton campaign does have a liason with Drudge though it is not her sole job.

Here's a good write up.

http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/10/22/america/drudge.1-156891.php

2) Drudge did not claim to have gotten the photo from the Clinton campaign, he claimed the Clinton campaign was passing it around via email.

Luckily I personally do not repeat Drudge's bullshit or defend it when questioned about it.

Others cannot say the same.

Which ain't gonna happen.

14. She is a lying liar who lies
Who knows. Maybe someone told her that the Philly 5am market would be favorable in backing a winner, but that the Pittsburgh 5-6pm market needed to know that it was close so that they would go out and support her.

I wouldn't believe her if she said the sun rose in the east.
