Mellencamp to join Obama on stage tomorrow in Evansville, IN.
Can't hurt...

Obama, Mellencamp and an Indiana town
Posted April 21, 2008 8:23 PM

by John McCormick

MCKEESPORT, Pa. -- Sen. Barack Obama was not exactly born in a small town, but he has still managed to win the backing of John Mellencamp.

The Illinois Democrat's campaign announced this evening that the music legend is scheduled to appear with Obama and his wife, Michelle, at a campaign event Tuesday evening in Evansville, Ind.

The announcement comes as the nomination fight with Sen. Hillary Clinton moves from Pennsylvania, where the primary is Tuesday, to Indiana and North Carolina, where the May 6 primaries are next on the calendar.

7. He should demand Sen Clinton stop using Small Town
He told Old John McCain to stop using some song. And, frankly, he's been more respectful of Sen Obama than Sen Clinton has been.

21. Believe it or not ...
Many of us (especially those of us who rarely visit this infernal forum) do not consider Clinton to be Satan Incarnate. I have a feeling that, while Mellencamp doesn't prefer Clinton, he WOULD gladly support her should she be the nominee ....

So it is highly unlikely that Mellencamp possesses the severe hillary-hatreds that are expressed in this vitriolic gathering. Mellencamp wants the GOP OUT ... I am sure he would support Hillary in that regard.

Don't hold your breath. John Mellencamp is an equal opportunity all around Democrat who supports the Democrats period.

8. Poor Guam. They are all forgotten.
Sitting out there all alone. Quietly hoping someone will come and ask for their delegates.

Quick trip on a plane and I think one could snag 2 delegates.

11. What if Mellencamp brought a friend with him?

Ya never know.......

But it's great to have John Mellencamp on board, either way.

And this song is just as valid today as it was when it was written in the Reagan era.....

He was born on the fourth day of july
So his parents called him independence day
He married a girl named justice who gave birth
To a son called nation
Then she walked away
Independence he would daydream and hed pretend
That someday him and justice and nation would get together again
But justice held up in a shotgun shack
And she wouldnt let nobody in
So a nation cried

Chorus:
Oh oh
When a nation cries
His tears fall down like missiles from the skies
Justice look into independences eyes
Can you make everyrhing alright
Can you keep your nation warm tonight

Well nation grew up and got himself a reputation
Couldnt keep the boy at home no no
He just kept running round and round and round and round
Independence and justice well they felt so ashamed
When the nation fell down they argued who was to blame
Nation if you'll just come home well have this family again
Oh nation dont cry

Chorus:
Oh oh
When a nation cries
His tears fall down like missiles from the skies
Justice look into independences eyes
Can you make everyrhing alright
Can you keep your nation warm tonight

Roll a rock across the country
Everbody come along
When youre feelin down yeah yeah
Just sing this song yeah yeah

13. This is depressing
I said last week that we would know what the Obama campaign's internal polling was saying when we found out where he planned to spend Tuesday night. She's going to be in Philly, while he will have moved on to Indiana. That means internal polling in both campaigns shows that she is going to win, and probably win big. I knew she was going to win but now it's pretty definite, and I'm feeling really demoralized.

14. It will be close. Don't worry about it. He's smart to start working on IN.
He needs to start his meteoric rise in the polls there. :)

19. i think you're wrong
I think it means that Obama's people think she's not dropping out no matter what. Why give up 1/2 a day in a close race when you don't have to.

You go as hard as you can until the other guy drops out, you don't assume anything is going to happen until it happens.

This is smart.

And even know a 1 point loss in PA is a huge win for Obama, it doesn't look right to have a "we had a moral victory" rally in PA tomorrow right.

He's gone on to the next state after almost every win in February, even wons he knew he was going to win by 20 pts.

16. I'm so happy that Barack is getting an opportunity to campaign more with Michelle..
I know it had to be tough to be on opposite sides of the country all the time. Good that now that we have fewer states left that they might be able to campaign together more.

I received a phone call this evening from Nick (a Obama campaign organizer from Los Angeles) who is helping staff the Robert Stadium event tomorrow night......they need 100 volunteers to work it and my husband and I will be two of the lucky ones! I can't wait! I think the Stadium holds around 13,232.
