Bill Clinton: Under GOP Primary System, Hillary Would Be Winning |
|
http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/04/bill-clinton-un.htmlABC News' Eloise Harper reports: Former President Bill Clinton, speaking to reporters after his wife’s event in Pittsburgh, PA Monday, said that under the republican primary system –- his wife would be ahead by hundreds of delegates. There is of course only one thing to say to this: Buh-bye.

I think she'd feel right at home in the gop. So would he. If they switch now they could still get on the ballot as VP.

Bill didn't have a problem with the nominating process when it worked for him, only when it stands in the way of HilLiary's coronation.

15. It goes to show how arbitrary our own delegate selection processes are |
|
more than anything.
Obama's "lead" wouldn't exist if the rules were slightly different.
All this does is prove the insignificance of being the nominal leader in pledged delegates after the primaries are done.

Rules are like that. Arbitrary.
It's only important that they be the same for everybody. As they are.

20. But rules don't say that if you win the pledged delegate |
|
election variable that you get the nomination.
This is part of the Clintons beginning to make their case to SDs that other election variables may be more relevant than a nominal lead in pledged delegates.

... Yes, if Democrats were more like republicans, then Clinton would be in the lead. Lotsa luck with that argument.

The GOP has a "winner take all" system of delegates: in other words, the losing side is effectively silenced at the moment the voting is complete. In the Democratic Party system, the losing side maintains a voice in the process at the national level, and the closer that vote, the more powerful that voice. This makes sense to me, and seems more democratic on its face. And both candidates benefit from it to some extent.
The GOP system is a conceptual heir to the vicious Hobbesian illusion that differences within the political body must meld completely into the State for governance to be effective. The Clinton supporters can keep that philosophy. I sure don't want it.

29. It's not a nominal lead; it's a real lead |
|
The rules are equally applied.
They are free to make the case that the winner take all system of delegates is more to their liking. That's all it is: a case. As it stands, everybody played by the same rules.

19. Unprovable, if the rules were different he would have had a different strategy and perhaps done as |
|
well as he did under the current rules
On the other hand all she ever had was name recognition and the hope that she could front load the process to win before anyone noticed that she was fatally flawed

30. if they were different., Obama's team would have strategized |
|
differently. We don't know what would have happened if we had different rules. We only play, and strategize, by the rules we have.

24. The Clintons are too smart not to have considered |
|
that with Obama's superior organizational skills, were the rules different, he'd have changed his strategy and still be winning.
What bothers me is that Bill's hoping we're too dumb to think of that.

It's freaking unbelievable how bizarre he seems lately.
Cannot believe I once was proud to support this man.
I'm begging him to go fishing for a couple of months.
