Media silent on Clinton under pressure: Inappropriate laughing and strange comments. |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-21-08 08:30 PM by Skwmom
She was just on Countdown. When asked about Scaife's endorsement she starts to laugh inappropriately - it was really bizarre. I think the guest who followed her said he thought it was a nervous tic (not sure b/c I was only half listening at that time). Before when she was questioned about Bill Clinton's 800k speech fee from Columbia she started laughing and said something weird about how many angels are on the head of a pin.
This footage could be the rebuttal ad to her latest scare ad. Watching her really made me feel unsettled (and I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt that way).
Why isn't the media talking about this?

She is not good at deflecting these kinds of questions and resorts to this behavior -- it's like a defense mechanism that kicks in or something.
Did she respond at all to the question about Scaife's endorsement, other than laugh, that is?

It would be shown continuously. Heck, if she was the nominee the Republicans would have one heck of an attack ad. When they attacked McCain for his temper, he'd hit her back with this.
On edit: Yeah, she responded saying something about people could be redeemed or something along those lines.

And she has gotten away with this a few times, IIRC.
But, did she have any comments regarding Scaiffe at all, or was it just the laugh? I am curious about whether she even tried to respond and give any details.

86. She did respond but her response deflected away |
|
from answering the immediate issue on the table, namely WHY WOULD SHE SIT DOWN WITH RM SCAIFE and his board of editors to discuss her campaign and presidential aspirations AFTER SCAIFE ACCUSED HER OF CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT MURDER.
But as the saying goes ... political aspirations make for strange bedfellows. That and the fact that she would do anything for an endorsement.

DH and I just looked at each other when she said it. It was said in reference to Scaife endorsing her. I was glad that Keith caught the comment and mentioned it even if he didn't have time to ask her about it. It was IMO, a very odd comment.

|
When KO started to pose the question about Scaife, she started to laugh even before he got half way through. My first reaction was that she was going to deflect and sure enough she came out with the "death bed conversion" comment. Sometimes she is really just laughing, but in this instance and others when she is pressed and uncomfortable it is an obvious "tell". You know she is going to dance around the issue and spout a non sequitur. I've noticed it happen most times when the line of questioning gets pointed and she is going to try and change the subject. If she's on solid ground, she comes at you straight on, there are clear differences if you keep an eye out. Guess she's not as vetted as she wants us to believe.

It was like she was babbling. Before she attacks Obama as being unable to handle tough situations, I think she needs to do her own self assessment.
So if she's in tough negotiations is she going to start laugh and making strange statements? I thought we were trying to repair our image?
On edit: You're right that laughter is a way to relieve stress but I thought she could handle stress - isn't that what she has been telling us for months.

Endlessly, ever since she lost my vote.
It was hers to lose.
I used to love both of them. I wanted HER to be the next President of the United States of America.
Not now. Not ever.
She hired overpriced idiots and scumbags to RUN HER POLITICAL LIFE for the duration of this thing.
A complete disconnect to what I thought she stood for.
Apparently I've been right about this. Now she threatens to bomb Iran.....To get the NEOCON vote during the General????
WTF????

is good at talking things to death. She knows that time on these shows are limited. If she is fortunate enough to get a softball question she in esence fillibusters the opportunity to waste time so less time left for the hard questions. That cackle is a defense mech. Her cackling deflects the seriousness of a question. The ol' "your making a mountain out of a mole hill" reinforcement. It's insulting, really. The cackling means someone hit a nerve she is just too smart to let you know it.
She is savvy, if nothing else. Transparent but savvy.

but no, that wasn't the context I was using the word in.
Sorry if I offended anyone?
Let me try it this way.
"Obnoxious, overbearing, gender neutral giggling used by both male and female alike as a conversational tactic used to insult, buy time or deflect the seriousness of a question that more times than not insults the interviewer and/or a third party listener."
Feel better? I'll choose my words a little more sensitivity next time, and please accept my apology.
I find the words "inappropriate laughter" just a little out of context as well. If a response of laughter comes from a person that was all but accused by another of serious crimes, like Scaife, thats inappropriate. I would hope she wasn't laughing about it? But, I do consider the source. Sorry.

A "narrow" definition of the word that shalt not be spoken mentions a hen. No reference to a woman that I saw. You took a little liberty with the word yourself, huh?
But, whatever the case, Hillary loosing and me being lashed out at and somehow responsible for the noise a chicken makes after laying an egg sounds just a tad ridiculous, don't ya think. With the exception of one vote I am responsible for neither.

In the previous question when she was asked about all the Colombia money Bill has been raking in, she laughed and dodged the question--as if to say why should anyone expect the truth out her about difficult personal questions--you might as well ask how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. Nothing she does now would surprise me--whether it's laughing maniacally at probing questions all the way to being dragged out of the convention kicking and screaming like Blanche DuBois at the end of Streetcar Named Desire.

Lighten' up, Francis.

But that doesn't mean they don't cackle.

40. The unsettling feeling is due to her treating us all like a bunch of fools |
|
If you're like me, you can't stand when someone insults your intelligence.
Why couldn't she truly level with us about the Scaiffe thing... She could have said, "Look, Scaiffe really hurt my family a long time ago. I met with him because that's what I have to do as a candidate. It's clear his endorsement is due to him underestimating me--which is a huge mistake on his part because I have a way of defeating republicans...yada yada..."
Instead she does the cackle and rattles off some bullshit about a deathbed conversion...

48. No. When I hear someone tell outrageous lies I become outraged. Watching this |
|
made me feel uneasy and unsettled because it was really bizarre. I'm sure a montage of Clinton's "moments" would give many a voter pause and make them wonder if she could handle the pressure.

49. Clinton is the one who brought up the issue of being tough enough to |
|
handle all of the serious issues faces this country. Her behavior really calls into question her own ability to satisfy the requirement that she has tauted as being necessary for the next President.
About that healthcare. If this is how one acts under pressure, good luck on getting any healthcare initiative passed.

64. She is acting in a bizarre manner, and it really makes one wonder |
|
how she'd handle the pressures of being President.
Dubya handled it without cracking because he doesn't give a shit and he's got huge unjustified self-confidence.
I can't say the same about Hillary. Caring's fine, but she goes all the way to being brutal. She'd obsess non-stop. Can you imagine if Hugo Chavez humiliated her in front of the UN like he did to Dubya? She'd never let that go.
Thank God it looks like Obama will win. The alternative is two unhinged personalities who apparently are both willing to blow the mid-East to smithereens.

|
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 08:26 AM by Skwmom
about how she laughs at inappropriate times and makes bizarre statements when under pressure. I think this in an important fact to consider when picking a President who will face tough times (a subject Clinton HERSELF brought up).
Of course the Republicans would bring it up in the general election so why shouldn't this be vetted now (according to Clinton logic).

to be sure.
Is this the way she is going to act if another head of state asks her a question?
That's almost Bushlike embarassing.
