Does anyone who doesn't reach a majority of delegates without SD's deserve the nomination? |
|
We seriously need to consider this... are BOTH candidates too weak to win the GE?
If so, what should we do about it as a party?
-Unity Ticket? -Nominate a Third person?
Just acknowledging the 500lb gorilla in the room...

1. You have it backwards. |
|
Both candidates are that good.
Either candidate would whoop McBush in the GE.
I think McBush is the far weaker candidate. I'm glad I'm not a repiggy having to back a candidate that the party crapped on in 2004.

8. Yep. Two of the strongest candidates offered up in decades. |
|
In terms of fundraising, they're unmatched.

because that is how the system is set up. 19-20% of the delegates are Supers. To say that a candidate must win more than 50% of the total delegates but nearly 1/5 don't count means that only a candidate who wins over 62% of the pledged delegates deserves a win. That bar is unreasonably high, and since the inception of Super delegates, has been met twice.
On Edit--not including Clinton's un-oopsed second term nomination.

3. Does anyone who hasn't received a single vote in the primaries |
|
deserve the nomination? Why? And no, either candidate would stand an excellent chance at beating McCain.

4. they've probably both got more votes than most previous nominees |
|
turnout has been huge, at least doubling previous records. I don't know the numbers of votes compared to previous dem nominees, I'd be interested to see that, but I would guess they would both beat previous ones.

9. It is strange to me why someone would set up a system.. |
|
where no one could get a majority of delegates without the involvement of the super delegates. A simple majority of the pledged delegates, even one vote, should determine the winner.
