Bill Clinton: Obama Camp Memos Reveal Plan To Play The Race Card On Me
By Eric Kleefeld - April 22, 2008, 8:34AM
In a further indication of just how perturbed Bill Clinton has been with this campaign, Bill made the following accusation against the Obama camp on a local Philadelphia radio show yesterday: "I think that they played the race card on me. We now know, from memos from the campaign that they planned to do it along."

It's not entirely clear what "memos" Bill might be referring to. The closest such memo in existence is one the Obama campaign put out a while ago, accusing the Clinton people of playing the race card on various occasions.

After the interview had officially ended, but while his microphone was still on, Bill upped the ante: "I don't think I should take any shit from anybody on that, do you?"

21. unless he starts sticking cigars in orifices in the White House...
honestly, at one point I was actually thinking how great it would be to have a woman for Prez, then Hillary signed Iraq's death warrant, and I knew that either she'd read the NIE and was dumb enough to vote for War, or she hadn't read it and was ineffectual..

In any case, that's the day I turned to my wife and said, "She's signing on for war, and will be running for Prez, as of today she will never get a vote from me..."

What scares me about Bill, now that I've lost all respect for him, and DID hold him in the highest regard back when, is that he'll potentially pull some sexual bullshit IN the White House and we'll get sucked into that crap all over again.. Seriously, I think something's happened to his mind since his major surgery..

Bug you I still respect, come what may in the Primaries :)

33. I agree, direct your anger at the person that made the comparison: Jesse Jackson Jr
But on the night of Obama's victory, Jesse Jr. had this to say to the Washington Post about the inadvisability of Obama going negative against Hillary Clinton: "The natural reminder here is O.J. —how does an African-American candidate attack a white woman?"

http://www.slate.com/id/2181356/

Obviously playing the race card behind the scene was their decision.

Disgusting and sick.

53. Being a black woman..I will tell you I remember the verdict and was in "mixed" company when the
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 09:36 AM by ScarletSniper
verdict came in..and the reaction was so vastly different between my black employees and white employees.

I spoke to many of them privately, and the reasoning for their reactions were vastly different too. For some of my white employees, it was about an a complete injustice, and the black jury let him off. For some black employees, it was about a win against a system full of injustice and the black jury struck a blow. Now granted in all this emotional posturing Nicole and Ron were lost in the shuffle for both sides. Of course, there were a few from either side that didn't take sides and just saw it as another senseless murder in a corrupt and bankrupt society (that's a whole other chapter)..lol

I could go into greater detail on my experience, but it requires a glass of wine and a nice view..stop by sometime...!

One thing I noticed though...in this Democratic Presidential race color and injustice has not reared its head amongst the group. It's about getting Bush out. Although many are Obama supporters, there are some Clinton supporters too, yet no animosity or bitterness exists like here on DU:GP. A good sign for the long haul, I think.

56. I doubt the animosity and bitterness by some here is carried out to their
lives offline.

Something about an anonymous message board emboldens people to act in a way they never would face to face with another human being. At least I hope so.

It is a way for them to vent, and hopefully be civil in the real world.

I tell my mom some of the things I read here, she is shocked by it as well.

25. It's fairly obvious that part of the Obama strategy was to turn black voters against Clinton.
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 09:12 AM by Blue_State_Elitist
Without the 90 percent of black votes that he has been getting in every state, this primary would look a lot different. The move toward painting Bill as a racist was good politics, not necessary the politics of hope, but good politics nonetheless.

52. Pick up by NBC now..... Bill said WHAT?

Some legacy fixing? Per NBC/NJ’s Mike Memoli, Bill Clinton appeared on WHYY radio (an NPR affiliate), in which he defended comparing Obama to Jesse Jackson right before the South Carolina contest (“No, I think they played the race card on me”), and in which he misstates some of the facts surrounding his comment. Also, at the end of the interview, Bill doesn’t appear to know he’s still on the air when he hurls an expletive at an aide.
