NOT so GOOD news about HILLARY on Issue of TRUTHINESS
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 12:50 PM by FrenchieCat
Over 60% of the American people believes that she is untrustworthy.

Poll shows majority find Clinton untrustworthy

The latest findings from ABC News and the Washington Post finds that a majority of respondents find the former first lady untrustworthy, compared to a majority who trusted her before the campaign began.

Clinton is viewed as "honest and trustworthy" by just 39 percent of Americans, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll, compared with 52 percent in May 2006. Nearly six in 10 said in the new poll that she is not honest and trustworthy. And now, compared with Obama, Clinton has a deep trust deficit among Democrats, trailing him by 23 points as the more honest, an area on which she once led both Obama and John Edwards.

Clinton in the Wilderness

By Richard Cohen
Tuesday, April 22, 2008; Page A19

It was nice of Hillary Clinton to issue, as all the candidates did, a statement about Passover, the Jewish holiday of the season. Clinton said she was "deeply moved" by its message of freedom and human dignity, but she should have plowed on past Exodus and into Numbers and Deuteronomy. It is there that she can find a lesson for herself -- how Moses, after all he had done, was not allowed to step foot in "the good land that is beyond the Jordan." For Moses, that was Israel. For Clinton, it's the White House.

The story of Moses is one of the most poignant in the Bible. It shows God at his most adamant and petulant, refusing to forgive Moses for his own anger and vanity when he disobeyed the Almighty. So at the age of 120, after 40 years in the wilderness, after the Red Sea and all of that, Moses died before reaching his goal -- and it was, never mind the literal truth, a lesson to us all. Even for a Moses, some actions are irrevocable.

....But she has gone too far -- too much disturbing stuff, some of it shocking in its coarseness. For instance, she added the coy "as far as I know" to her "60 Minutes" statement that Obama is not a Muslim. More important, she offered a weak and disingenuous defense of her Senate vote in support of going to war in Iraq. But more recently came her stunning Moses Moment, that polygraph buster about being under sniper fire in Bosnia. It was a defining time in her campaign, not because she exaggerated or lied -- call it what you want -- but because the statement was hurled into a gale of contrary evidence, including eyewitnesses and video: a serene welcoming ceremony, complete with the requisite young girl bestowing the requisite gift. No snipers. No avoiding the obvious, either: Sometimes Hillary Clinton just can't help herself.

The story was nuts -- and Clinton herself has been at a loss to explain it. But for many voters, it encapsulated their suspicion, their anxiety, their hesitation about Clinton: She lies. The consequences for her were ruinous. In a Post-ABC News poll, only 39 percent of voters said they consider Clinton honest and trustworthy. This is a damning indictment.

68. Really, you have never incorrectly predicted the future?
Are you a millionaire? Do you have the winning numbers for the lottery? I could sure use them.

You see the weakness of your argument is that what Obama said was about the future. While he perhaps should have followed through with his promise, circumstances change. He felt that this was the moment, and he had to seize it. Carpe Diem!

Now Hillary on the other hand was speaking about the past, not the future, which makes it a flat out lie. Anyone who has ever heard gun fire unexpectedly will remember everything about that day.

32. Absolutely. It's nearly impossible once lost.
But in contrast, everyone but Hil had the opportunity to gain supporters and name recognition. That's why I never did think she had it in a lock.

I stopped trusting her every time I saw her give a speech against something she had just voted for. That was years before the campaign.

56. Very true. I read something around here this morning that said her
favorables in NY are now under 50%, and she's only beating McCain by 4 pts. in her home state. Doesn't sound so "inevitable" to me. On a side note, the last time something was posted here, it seems that Bill is taking as big a hit as Hillary in favorability these days. Hopefully, they'll join the Repubs, and get it over with.

Count me among the 60%'ers.

...That pretty much told me that she'll be saying anything here on out to try and get my vote while also grossly misrepresenting what Obama said (or in most cases didn't say). I really would have liked to give her the benefit of the doubt, but I just can't. She's not honest, she's probably corrupt to the core, and I would NOT want to call her my Commander-in-Chief. Having said that, for me, she is the lesser of the two evils if it comes down to her and McCain.

39. It's the Drama Queen entrances with the huge open mouth smile and bulging eyes and pointing finger
Her drama coach taught her to do this and she does it constantly. It's a strategy for people who are not comfortable in front of crowds. I loved watching Teresa Heinz Kerry and Senator Bob Casey, and Barack and Michelle Obama walk out onto the platform at Pitt last night. They were natural and comfortable, with an occasional smile and occasional wave to the crowd. Not a single finger pointing as if they just spotted their long lost best friend in the crowd.

57. Ok...An op/ed piece referencing a week-old poll
Written by someone who characterized the prosecution of "Scooter" Libby as politically motivated. He also criticized Stephen Colbert's 2006 Correspondent's Dinner performance.

He also said the use of force in Iraq could be "therapeutic" after the events of 9/11.

And I love this one...

"...the evidence Colin Powell presented to the United Nations — some of it circumstantial, some of it absolutely bone-chilling in its detail — had to prove to anyone that Iraq not only hasn't accounted for its weapons of mass destruction but without a doubt still retains them. Only a fool — or possibly a Frenchman — could conclude otherwise"

Yeah..Richard Cohen is someone whose opinions I want to shout from the mountain tops.

and more like a repulican's fellow warmonger.

i for one refuse to abstain from criticizing someone just b/c they put a D next to their name.

that's akin to not criticizing bush because he's the president, and i've heard enough of that from freepers over the last eight years.

i'd like to play nice, but this campaign has not exactly been nice. and far too much hangs in the balance to just give her a pass just because she shares party-membership. "D" does not make one automatically trustworthy.
