I will ask again: What is Hillary's plan for winning 90% of the black vote with a high turnout? |
|
Hillary supporters have for months harped on Barack Obama's troubles with white working class voters as evidence that he is somehow unelectable. It's certainly fair to be concerned about this issue, and once he is nominated, I believe that he needs to center his campaign on economic issues and at least achieving parity with the Republicans among these voters.
But let's say, Hillary supporters, that the party, for whatever reason, decides to give the nomination to her. Early in this process blacks were solidly behind her, but her black support collapsed nationwide during the South Carolina campaign after a series of arrogant and clumsy remarks by her, her husband and their supporters. We can debate whether or not that is a fair characterization, but the fact is that black voters have rejected Hillary Clinton since South Carolina. She claims that she is the better, more electable nominee. I must then ask what is her plan for winning 90% of the black vote AND generating a high turnout of black voters. Democrats do not win elections when these two things do not happen.

2. As much of an Obama supporter as I am |
|
I have to admit that I think the black vote would still come out and vote for Clinton as the Democratic nominee. That's basically the same argument as Clinton winning the "big states;" as if Obama won't carry California in the GE.
Or they could stay home for all I know. This would be a historic, genuine chance at a black president, so who knows if it suddenly all fell apart.

6. If Obama leads as he is now..and the SDs give it to Hillary you can bet black voters will stay home |
|
in large numbers. Shit, based on conversations I've had, I can guarantee it.
I just saw on MSNBC 29% of new voters said if Hillary is the nominee they would not vote for her...Yikes.

13. I think this will also be true of young voters in general. They will see |
|
this as rejection and drop out. I also think we need to remember that some of these voters who have come out for Hillary since Texas are repugs causing trouble and they will not support her in the general.

Because you say so...
I am curious how 71% support from new voters brings on a 'yikes?'

28. I think you are wrong that the black vote will come out for Clinton. |
|
The Republicans have been telling black voters that the Democratic Party has taken them for GRANTED. The Clintons will lose the solid block of black voters for a generation.

23. Look at Boston for example..... |
|
The white neighborhoods vote in every election. As as result, they get services that the black neighborhoods don't. Clean streets, working street lights, snow plowing, economic boots here and there. Ask anyone who lives in Boston (or former Bostonians who are in the suburbs) if this is true. West Roxbury (white) gets a hell of alot more that Mattapan (black). Add that with South Boston, Hyde Park and Charlestown as the heavy white voting neighborhoods. I am sure it is the same in Philadelphia, DC, Chicago, and every other major city. Oh, and before I am called a racist, I am not. I am just pointing out an observation. No matter who the nominee is, I hope that ALL Democrats vote for the Democrat in November.

Instead of proving your case by posting statistics to racial turnout by neighborhood you cite CITY SERVICES in these neighborhoods? Did it ever occur to you that maybe THE CITY is racist?

7. The O-man becomes VP. And if Hillary could somehow take the top spot, he WOULD take the 2nd spot -- |
|
when it came down to it, he would. The Vice-Presidency is as useful to him as it would be useless to her: it would give him 8 years of experience; it would just take away 8 more years from her. She can't win at 68 if she can't win at 60, not with the way sexism and ageism are so strong out there, especially when they intersect with each other (there's no greater cultural sin than being an old woman it looks like.)

29. I hesitate to suggest it because it would be such an obvious pander, but... |
|
especially with her recent military strong-arm talk, perhaps she's plotting a veep spot for Colin Powell. Or even Rice.
After all, it'll be the same old DC gang, with Gramps Greespan on her econ board, and Terry Mac stammering his way through her political spin, and incessant media coverage of Bill gaffe after Bill gaffe.
I think she'd do it if she thought she needed it to win. I think she'd do anything.
