51. Elizabeth Edwards herself was not on MSNBC and there was no statement from her
Edited on Tue Apr-22-08 11:03 PM by bobbert
Until it comes out of her mouth, it is a rumor.

Also, read post #7

You're right, I don't know it's not true, but I don't know it is true either. My opinion is that a rumor is not true until it comes from a reliable source. Some pundit on MSNBC's opinion is not a reliable source.

edit: post #48 is better

59. This is what I found, the media probably has even more info
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/09/elizabeth-edwards-praises_n_95788.html

Elizabeth Edwards praised Sen. Hillary Clinton's health care plan on ABC News this morning, saying "I just have more confidence in Senator Clinton's policy than Senator Obama's on this particular issue."

Meanwhile, Time notes that Mrs. Edwards has joined the Center for American Progress which "has been operating for the past two years as a kind of Hillary Clinton Administration-in-waiting."

Howard Fineman said this on MSNBC tonight, I did a google search and found this regarding Elizabeths position, sound like she would work in Hillary's administration.

73. Howard Fineman on MSNBC tonight:
"I'm told not to be surprised if in North Carolina, Elizabeth Edwards shows up at Hillary Clinton events--with Hillary and
maybe even without Hillary. I don't think John Edwards is going to endorse, but I think Elizabeth Edwards sentiments
are going to be made even more clear, and that matters in North Carolina."

90. Are you one of those people who feel there is no need to think when the media does it for you?
Howard Fineman is a talking head (like all of them) who babbles a stream of consciousness for entertainment. He's only telling you what he thinks based upon rumors. His statements do not indicate that he represents the Edwards or that he is authorized to speak on her behalf. He also does not state that he is quoting her directly. THEREFORE, the title of this thread has no basis.

I don't think you are stupid and incapable of basic logic so I am going to chalk it up to over-exuberance of the moment.

76. CAP, which "Team Hillary now snarkily refer to the group as the Center for Obama's Progress"

How Hillary's think tank went for Obama.

DISCUSS ARTICLE <29> | PRINT | EMAIL ARTICLE

Is it any wonder that Hillary Clinton can't help but occasionally burst into tears? This was supposed to be her year, gosh darn it. She had the money machine, the big-gun advisers, the support of the party establishment, and, of course, the carefully cultivated aura of inevitability. But then along came Barack Obama, and, suddenly, everywhere Hill turns, there's Mr. Audacity of Hope, flashing that goofy grin and siphoning off the love--or at least the tribute--that was rightfully hers. Obama has wooed away white-collar progressives. And independents. And young people. And the black community (the original Clinton firewall, for crying out loud). Now he's whipping Hillary in the money race and winning the endorsements of some of the party's most venerable figures. There's even talk that superdelegates who had previously pledged their troth to the Clintons are contemplating a change of allegiance. (Witness civil rights icon John Lewis's recent wavering.)

And, just when you thought the abandonment couldn't cut any deeper, it turns out that Obama--this upstart, this freshman, this guy no one in Washington had even heard of five years ago--has captured the affections of a Beltway institution widely seen as an unofficial outpost of Team Hillary: the Center for American Progress.

~snip~

Today, Team Hillary finds itself faced with a "Clinton White House in exile" completely awash in Obamamania. CAP's national security team is overwhelmingly pro-Obama, with many members advising the campaign. Executive Vice President for Policy Melody Barnes was an early supporter, while Senior VP for Domestic Policy Cassandra Butts has been an Obama chum since law school. Some veteran Clintonites (such as Smith and Daalder) have joined the revolution. And, among junior staff, Hillary folks are a rare breed. This isn't to suggest there aren't plenty of Clinton devotees still in residence, especially in CAP's upper echelons. But supporters of both candidates say the in-house divide tilts heavily in Obama's favor. (The most equitable guesstimate I heard was a 60-40 split.) The quasi-joke around CAP's H Street offices is that members of Team Hillary now snarkily refer to the group as the Center for Obama's Progress. Responds Podesta with an awkward chuckle, "Oh, well, let's just say that the ... um ... I think I ought to be careful about that one."

And Hillary got the idea from Willard Mittens Brigham Romney.

Edwards campaigned on stopping corporatism, not further enabling of it.

80. That quote is meaningless without context.
There's nothing there - not in your quote, not at the Huffington Post, not at the blog they got it from - that specifies WHAT it is that Elizabeth Edwards allegedly likes about Hillary's plan.

Sounds like Arianna (and the other blogger) just wanted to dream up a pseudo-endorsement of Hillary by Mrs. Edwards. The far more interesting quote actually came later in the original blog's account of the story....

Note that last week, Mrs. Edwards hinted that she and her husband may back different candidates.

I have a feeling we'll be hearing from the future Attorney General shortly before the NC primary. ;)

I heard Howard Fineman say this. He was thinking out loud and
suggesting that Elizabeth Edwards might come out to Hillary events.

How many times have pundits said something that Elizabeth might do, or did say--only
to have her correct it later.

Fineman had nothing to back up what he said.

It's obviously not confirmed but I wouldn't actually be surprised
One of the biggest differences on the domestic front between Clinton and Obama is healthcare. The Edwards believe that there are no half measures - either every American is covered by mandate or the insurance companies will wiggle their way out of covering the very sick, an issue very dear to Elizabeth.

66. unlike anyone here, she KNOWS both candidates and has a relationship with both
to base her decision on.

I trust and respect her choice, as I did when both decided not to endorse either candidate.

(who I think is wonderful and my family knows casually) will not be a vote turner for Hillary. Nice symbolism, though, I suppose.

46. From the poll I read a month or so ago an Edwards endorsement
would HURT Obama in North Carolina. For whatever reason he is not popular there anymore. I actually like him. I'm sure people will feel sympathy for Elizabeth when she talks about how her incurable illness and healthcare. However, I don't think it will change minds. If she can't make a difference in a state like North Carolina she should really stay out of it. However, if she strongly feels like she can make a difference then she should go for it. I don't think it matters either way because Obama will still win North Carolina and the nomination.

45. That was a prediction by Howard Fineman
Prediction may even be too strong a word. More of a "maybe we'll see".

54. Then why would he say John would not be out but Elizabeth would?
Why not say both?

I think the only reason John isn't is because he still has delegates and will be making a case at the convention

48. Here is the exact quote...about Elizabeth Edwards....
Thank God for TIVO....here is Fineman's exact quote on MSNBC

"I'm told not to be surprised if in North Carolina, Elizabeth Edwards shows up at Hillary Clinton events--with Hillary and
maybe even without Hillary. I don't think John Edwards is going to endorse, but I think Elizabeth Edwards sentiments
are going to be made even more clear, and that matters in North Carolina."

58. I like Elizabeth
But I see little point in showing up for HC ..she cannot catch up in delegates and there would be near riots if it was ever thought she stoled out from under BO...I just dont see how she can get the win and have it pass as ok...she would loose so many voters with a move like that.

81. Great News
This is the second place I read this, so it must be true.
This is better than John Edwards endorsing her because Elizabeth is the one with all the serious health problems and NC didn't love JE anyway.
