There was something in Hillary Clinton's speech tonight.
She was more subdued and articulated what a Democrat stands for better than she has in a long time.

She did not attack Sen. Obama (and I noticed in his speech, he didn't attack her either).

I might have to eat these words later, but I think she realizes that she crossed a line in the Pennsylvania primary campaign, as illustrated by http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/23/opinion/23wed1.html?_r=1&ref=opinion&oref=slogin">this editorial from the same NY Times that endorsed her.

So what is someone who feels so passionately that she should be President to do?

Barack Obama will be the Democratic nominee. The superdelegates have been so offended by the campaign that she has conducted (most recently in PA) that they will not overturn the pledged delegate lead and vote for her. I even suspect that some of the pledged delegates from earlier Super Tuesday states will switch their votes to Obama at the convention. She does not have the money to seriously compete in places that are must-wins for her like Indiana and North Carolina.

In my opinion, Hillary knows this and she isn't running for President at this point. She's making her case to the party establishment that she will deliver the Presidency in the general election if she is on the ticket as VP. Remember how she previously stated that conflicted voters might not have to worry because Clinton and Obama might end up on the same ticket?

I am starting to think this extended primary is more or less an expensive negotiation for Hillary Clinton to prove her worth to the Presidential ticket.

Fair or not, depending on the results of Indiana and North Carolina, we may have to consider it.

1. That's because she stole half of her speech from Obama's the other day.
Jesus, if you people would listen to both candidates. MSNBC even picked up on it. :eyes:

3. she does that a lot, i think to cheapen Obama's speeches
make it seem like he is saying the same thing everyone else is saying. It is not necessarily the most effective thing for her to personally say, but by doing so she morphs herself partly into Obama, reduces their differences.

6. But she said the words, even if they were not totally her own.
I have not seen her go there before. And not only did she say the words, but she said them like she meant them. She abandoned the phoniness tonight and tried to make a case.

In my opinion, it was not a case to be President of the United States.

4. But who will she be tomorrow?
Remember how "proud" she was to share the stage with Barack Obama, and then it was "Shame on you, Barack Obama!"

I never know who I'm going to see when I flip on the teevee.

8. That's why I qualified my comments with "I may have to eat my words."
Given her past behavior, I really can't trust what she says or does. But that's the way things appeared to me.

5. Hillary's speech was brilliant.
And she is making her case for president of the United States, not president of the United States.

10. I just do not believe anything from her any more.
Bush say anything to get in and I see Clinton doing the same. Some one handed her a paper to read. I think this is ego running wild with her and Bill. It has not one thing to do with us any more.

Like Nixon, Hillary can lie from both sides of her mouth.

20. Funny, That's Just How Some of Us Feel About Obama.
Obama's lies haven't all been brought out into the light, yet.

But his chickens will come home to roost, sure as rain.
