Republican 527 Anti-Obama Ads to Be Released in No. Carolina.
A Talking Head on MSNBC mentioned tonight he had received an email announcing a GOP 527 was going to release anti-Obama ads in the next two weeks targeting the MSM/Clinton-fueled "greatest hits" including such notables Rev. Wright and Ayers.

Anybody hear that?

Effin hell. :(

10. Actually, they are pretty stupid.
They get their best talking points from our side, didn't you know that? They got the idea to use Willie Horton against Dukakis in '88 from none other than Al Gore. They got the very effective "flip flop" meme to use against John Kerry from Dick Gephart in the primary. The GOP spent millions on the Swift Boaters but in all the time I campaigned for Kerry, knocking on many doors and talking to probably thousands of voters, I almost never heard about it. But I heard about John Kerry "flip flopping" over and over.

19. If we weren't going through this stupid charade our nominee wouldn't be fighting on TWO fronts
with a divided party and no resources from the DNC. We all know how this is going to end, but Hillary's if-I-can-have-it-no-one-can petulance is going to cost us the election.

If she somehow "deserves" the nomination great - let her WIN the most pledged delegates. It's really simple. She's not going to be the nominee because she LOST to Obama. To quote Seinfeld, "congratulations, you almost won. Of all the losers, you came in first of that group. You're the number one... loser. No one lost... ahead of you." Only a Clinton would stage this kind of ego maniacal stunt. Screw party, screw the election, screw the future.

23. It prevents him from pivoting and bringing his case against McCain.
It is glaringly apparent that the Clintons will require a stake driven through their sense of entitlement before this is over.

So be it.

I'm sure there's a lot of preachers there who relate to Wright. Remember, the clergy in general defended Wright. And this is the Bible Belt.

17. DVR set, thanks. :)
I have every confidence Rev. Wright will speak eloquently and persuasively, and will dispel the caricature that has been painted of him, well at least to most reasonable people. ;)

No worries. The landscape is changing, shifting, and a realignment of the parties is happening.

Barack is battling both Clintons, the Media Heathers, McCain, and the GOP - and winning. He is the choice for Democrats. Hillary Clinton can no longer call herself a Democrat IMO. No Democrat has ever run their campaign like a Republican against their Dem opponent with this caliber of nasty attacks and fear-mongering. It's breathtaking really.

Worse, she's running to the right of John McCain on foreign policy and national security. That has never been a tenet of the Democratic Party. She will never speak for me. Ever.

6. Republican 527's are clearly in the tank for Hillary now
Why else would they target NC? Why not Ohio or other swing states needed for November?

Republicans 527's aren't trying to influence the GE, they're trying to influence the primary now. Clinton should be ashamed.

DNC officials should try to investigate any connection to the Hillary campaign.

Super delegates are you watching? Move your asses NOW!!

The thought of the Clintons teaming up with the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy is surreal.

It's up to the superdelegates to drive a stake through the heart of her campaign and stop the ugly.

27. Thank you Cali_Democrat
If they wanted to hurt Obama in the general, they would save it for the general. The timing of these ads can only mean one thing: They are trying to knock Obama out of the democratic primary. They're trying to choose their opposition, and they are choosing Hillary.

That knowledge leads me to a different conclusion than you arrived at though. I will give Hillary the benefit of the doubt and assume she is not working directly with the republican 527 (recent alliances with Scaife aside).

In my estimation it means that republicans are afraid to run against Obama, and/or they want to run against Hillary. It's one or both of those reasons.

Of course many of us have been saying for months that republicans want to run against Hillary. It's obvious to anyone who can think and observe. In Obama they've got a charismatic leader who is threatening to pick up a lot of crossover votes from them, and on the other they've got the one person who will get the crazy base to vote for McCain. It's not like this is the first evidence. Let's not forget "Operation Chaos" and how every republican TV pundit seems to spin for Clinton. Truth is, they are not prepared to run against Obama. They, like Hillary, never saw him coming. His rise is the greatest thing that could have happened to us, and so many would have us throw it away.

28. I think they got the wrong message.
The Clintons and Media Heathers are convinced her nasty campaigning is what gave her the 10-point advantage, ignoring of course the fact that he cut her lead in half in three weeks. We have been advised vis a vis the Talking Heads that the message Clinton got from Pennsylvania is that going ugly works and to look for more of that in the next two weeks.

Oy.

This is one sorry state of our politics, and precisely why Barack will prevail.

I'll bet when she met with Scaife, the perpetrator of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy in case you missed the 1990s, she had no idea whatsoever, I mean it was probably a huge surprise when Scaife's paper endorsed her and now these ads.

30. More: "A Willie Horton Hit On Obama?"
A Willie Horton Hit on Obama?
Tuesday, Apr. 22, 2008 By MICHAEL SCHERER

Starting Tuesday, a group of conservative activists led by Floyd Brown, author of the famous Willie Horton ad used so effectively against Michael Dukakis in 1988, will begin a campaign to tar Obama as weak on crime and terrorism, a strategy that aims to upend Obama's relatively strong reputation among Republican voters.

"The campaign by Hillary Clinton has not been able to raise Obama's negatives," said Brown on Monday. "It is absolutely critical that Obama's negatives go up with Republicans."

* snip *

Brown is funding the initial ad campaign through a political action committee called the National Campaign Fund, which had $14,027 in the bank at the end of March. Brown said he had established several other front groups to fund a long-range effort to erode Obama's support, including a second PAC, called The Legacy Committee, a 527 organization called Citizens for a Safe and Prosperous America and a so-called "social welfare" 501(c)4 nonprofit called the Policy Issues Institute.

Later this week, Brown said he plans to debut a second ad, focusing on Democratic support for giving driver's licenses to illegal immigrants, which he says will also be aired in North Carolina. The second ad will be paid for by Citizens for a Safe and Prosperous America, the 527 group, which can accept donations of any amount. "This is a long march to November," Brown said. "Right now it's beginning a process that gives us the information to succeed in August and September."

By airing the ads in North Carolina, the site of an upcoming Democratic primary, Brown appears to be playing for national media attention. The initial spot also consciously mimics the themes from one of the most famous, and controversial, attack ads in modern political history, the Willie Horton ad. That spot, which was also funded outside a campaign, blamed Michael Dukakis, the 1988 Democratic nominee, for the weekend furlough that allowed a convicted felon to commit another rape. At the time, domestic crime was a major national issue, though it has not registered as a significant concern in public opinion polls during this election cycle.

32. This is great news for our girl! The tide is turning. Go Hill.
The tide is going to turn against Democrats if HRC doesn't stop playing along with the Republicans. If she and Obama jointly called right on this racism and attacked it aggressively, that would boost the Democratic party's chances for victory. But if she sort of says "These GOP 527 ads are misleading, as far as I know" that will just make the Democratic party look like a bunch of clowns.

39. Go Hill? Scaife is creating a 527 to support her. You OK with that?
Doesn't it bother you that Hillary is aligning with the perpetrator of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, the very people we fought tooth and nail in defense of the Clintons in the 1990s, to take down another Democrat?

That "by any means necessary" mantra is precisely why the Democratic Party is on the verge of splitting irreparably.

38. IMO there appears to be a realignment of the parties happening.
I never thought I'd ever see a Democrat using GOP tactics to attack another Democrat. It seems Hillary has tapped into the very worst of the Democratic party and in an ironic twist of fate that segment is in synch with the very worst of the Republican party. I say let them find themselves in the process and wallow in their prejudices and hate, and the rest will align to move the country forward.
