How did the Amish vote go?
Just wondering.

I actually think Obama could win them over in the GE, since they are staunchly anti war (despite being conservative)

4. Good question. Could all Amish DUers online here give this thread a shout out?
Even one of you sounding off here would be useful.

Hello? Anybody out there?

5. Do they even vote?
Edited on Wed Apr-23-08 02:40 PM by Andy823
There are some religious groups that don't vote, Jehovah's Witnesses for sure, and I thought that the Amish also did not vote, could be wrong.

17. Some vote, but not many - they generally disassociate from the political process due to war -
that is, by voting, they then become involved in a system that exercises violence against others, which goes against their pacifist leanings.

However, some do vote, and they tend to go Republican when they do. As someone said below, they're anti-abortion stance is greater than their anti-war stance.

10. Obama won Lancaster county, from the results posted here last night.

And that's where the Amish are.

Here's the real question though.... are the Amish allowed to vote on paper ballots, since even touching a Diebold machine would be totally a violation of their religious/cultural principles.

12. The Amish are practical....they have a telephone in case of emergency
and if one of them gets hurt I think they go to hospital like everyone else.

15. For business only
The phone is in the barn for business purposes, not in the home.

because someone did a mass mailing of postcards to them all spreading the rumor that he is an English.
