DCCC's Van Hollen warns Dems to tone it down...consensus building around Dean's request for July 1.
This is good. Both Van Hollen and Steny Hoyer warn against the attacks.

Van Hollen: Democrats "playing with fire"

Democratic Congressional Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen has a message for the Democrats still battling for the presidential nomination: Tone it down. The Maryland congressman, charged with expanding the party's House majority this fall, said today that he had let the campaigns of both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama know of his "concern that the increasingly negative tone in the primary could hurt our prospects in November - not just for the eventual nominee but also for our congressional candidates."

Continued rancor "will make it more difficult to heal the wound," said Van Hollen, who has remained neutral in the primary campaign. "It means we spend more time beating up on each other and less time drawing the distinction between the Democratic position on issues and John McCain as a continuation of the Bush era. ... I do think we're playing with fire."

Van Hollen said a consensus had grown around Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean's call for undeclared superdelegates to make there preferences known by July 1.

"I strongly support Howard Dean's call," he said. "I think it would be a big mistake to take a divided party into the convention in Denver and have these divisions play out on national television."

So do I.

1. Sounds good to me.
Taking it to the Convention would be a disaster.

85 more SD's to Obama ends it.

2. The MSM really want a brokered convention.
Because:
1. Hurts dems
2. Makes great quality television. :sarcasm:

21. Oh come on, we don't need to give them a name.
I know they're nuts, but they're good intentioned.

Honestly, I think most of them are Hillary supporters who don't want to see Obama win.

6. Dean said June, Van says July
Why not just express some serious concern and have the SDs declare by Aug 22nd.:sarcasm:

Sorry, MadF I love your posts and appreciate all of the information you provide.

This just sounds like more of their "we're doing the right thing" while not doing a damned thing.

7. Well, look at it this way..
Obama is leading in every way except SDs, and there are only 23 between them now.

If by chance the SDs went for Hillary, which is possible, not likely....the Obama supporters would not accept it.

If they go for Obama, even those he is way ahead....those who support Hillary would vote for McCain.

It is divisive, and I wish they would stop it sooner, but only the SDs can do that.

BTW they actually both meant at the end of the primaries. But by the end of the month, on July 1.

10. The Clintons have a grip on the party.
There are few if any who can boss them around.

What do you want done? Do you want them to tell Obama to leave Hillary alone...to get out of the race?

What do you want?

9. Who do you think has the power to tell the Clintons to bug off?
No one that I know of. They have a huge machine independent of the DNC, remember?

What do you want them to do?

11. I vent one time on your thread
Edited on Wed Apr-23-08 07:27 PM by WIllo
and you wanna hit me not once, not twice, but three damn times with logic reasoning!!!

Damn it. I read each of your posts, wracked my brain and my only answer is:

"I just want this damn thing to be over!" *insert whine throughout*

I do know, what is going on isn't right. Whether because of the rules or lack thereof, I don't know, but it ain't right.

I do however, think the standard rule is one logic attack per vent. I'm just saying.

16. The DCC called and asked for money tonight.
I told them to go ahead and send me the pledge card, but that I was holding onto it until I saw what the superdelegates were going to do regarding Obama.

When I get the pledge card, I'll be sure to relay that to Van Hollen as well. If they want my money, he needs to pressure the SD's to support the pledged delegate results. I'm not going to donate money to congressmen looking to negate my vote.
