Why Obama Really Lost Pennsylvania
Why Obama Really Lost Pennsylvania
by TocqueDeville
Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 03:56:49 PM PDT

Oh what a mystery. Pat Buchanan and many, many others just can't figure out how Obama could have spent so much money and not "closed the deal." Is there something wrong with him? We need to spend the next two weeks discussing it.

This is why Obama lost PA:

8. I heard on NPR this afternoon...
citing a PA exit poll: 16% of voters said race was a factor in their vote, 13% of voters said race was a major factor in their vote. That's a full 29% of PA Dems (over half of hillary's total) admitting they're racists. A shame... but not surprising.

9. Not really...they could have meant that race was a factor in that they
voted for Barry because they thought it was time for a black person to be Prez. There's no way to accurately tell if they just asked if race was a factor without a follow-up Why.

16. After working on the Obama campaign in and around Pittsburgh for a month now,
that exit poll is not surprising at all. I have never in my life heard so many stupid, racist remarks in my entire life. This is the first campaign I have ever worked so hard for, so maybe this is just the way people are when it gets down to it. Still, I was absolutely shocked by the unbridled ignorance expressed by registered democrats that I spoke to. It was daily, it was almost constant and it has made me decide to start planning an out-of-state move.

If that's elitist, then someone, please, fix me a latte.

33. Other black Democrats have been successful in Pittsburgh
And not just in the African American communities. A number of black candidates have been successful in citywide and county races over the years.

I can't see how blaming them for Obama's failure to appeal to them is really that constructive.

51. Don't get me wrong about Pittsburgh. He won Pittsburgh and he overwhelmingly won my ward.
It was the pockets of blue collar whites in certain neighborhoods that I was talking about. Its one thing if Obama "doesn't appeal" to them. Its another thing if they call him a nigger or a raghead or say they won't vote for someone who won't salute the flag.

36. Do you think there's a relationship between the level of racism and the age of the average voter?
Don't get me wrong--I don't think all older people are racists. But I do think it's more prevalent in my age group than it is in my children's age group and in my grandchildren's age group, it's rarely seen.

It's mindblowing when you see them all up there like that. Although I'm not sure why Olbermann, Maddow, Stewart and Schuster are up there - except to show how few there are on our side.

Why can't we organize a response like the one to the debate. That's what we need to do every time we hear them spewing talking points instead of facts.

MSNBC and Keith and Rachel spend their time on the air apologizing for Obama and attacking Clinton. I hope they look back at these days with shame at some point, when they come to their senses.

That's why Matthews said that it was the media's fault because they created the delusion that Hillary could win. They did that because they're in the take for Obama.

Keith and Rachel are just telling the truth. They'd be doing the same thing if it were Edwards-Clinton, because Clinton would be running the same kind of kneecapping campaign. Except then, you'd be able to see it.

That's why he lost. It's really that simple.

She also has been polling well in some of the demographics in that state. Obama did well in those demos that he has been doing well in previous states. PA was a lot like Ohio, and it favored Clinton.

Don't blame anybody else please.

27. Obama needs to get his act together
Obama's personality and message just aren't resonating with lower/middle class white people. Looking at the results in today's Post Gazette, Obama only won in African American communities, college student communities and wealthy communities in Pittsburgh.

This could be a problem in November, a big margin in Allegheny County is almost essential for victory, the candidate still has time to get his act together.

31. Whe Obama lost
Obama lost PA because he didn't go negative enough to defend himself. He waited way to long to counter with the ammo that is available. Where was the commercial about Hillarys lying ? It goes back to Watergate! Every candidate can lie but when they will probably lie all you are getting when you vote for that person is no different than voting to take whats behind curtain number three. Where was the commercial that could have used the disclaimer that the mutual funds use on tv that say in fine print at the bottom "past performance" is no guarantee of future performance when Hillary cites the Clinton years.
Where was the commercial asking what happened to Hugh and Tony Rodham (Hillarys brothers pardoned). Where was the commercial using one of Rushs famous analogies that would go like this. "Do you know how many people have to be wrong for Hillary to be right?"
Where was the comeback for Obama insulting Pa when Hillary and the media did the same or worse when they implied the old (set in their ways) and the uneducated voted or are voting for Hillary? I really am upset to be linked to this mindset. PA people are stupid and the vote proves it. No one said a thing.
Hillary claims to be a fighter but where was anyone calling her on the claim. Where did she ever fight for anyone but herself?Where are those jobs she promised to NY if she was elected senator.Obama would have gotten far more traction if he had used the local news stations for one on one interviewing. Who screwed up at Obamas camp and did not find out before hand that the cosponsoring group of the ABC debate had both Clintons and both Bushs on the board and agreed to be interviewed by Stephanopoulus. He was broadsided here and again he said nothing. This is only a small sampling of what could have been used. If it sounds like I'm pissed I am and I am one of those 160000 republicans that switched not to vote for Hillary but to vote for Obama.

49. I think people who are hurting financially don't have the luxury to support Obama.
They see the Clintons - who had a great economy and there was peace, etc. I can see where they'd rather go with the "tried and true" over taking a chance with an unknown like Obama. I can just picture some blue collar person who is worried about their home that is ready to go into forclosure saying wtf? while listening to Obama's speeches and thinking it's bullshit.

He doesn't say a lot of concrete things.
