Why do old, not college educated people and women support Hillary? |
|
I fit in 2 out of the three categories and I don't support her? Why do so many of the others....well, the "not college educated" might be somewhat explainable even though I didn't graduate from college.
I feel kind of insulted that people of my age, sex and education level are so stupid. Supporting HRC 9 months ago was understandable, but NOW??? Well there is no real excuse. Especially when we have such an awesome alternative to vote for.
I honestly am embarrassed of Bill Clinton of late and of HRC since super Tuesday. They both have really disappointed me. I used to be a very passionate supporter of both of them, I guess I am embarrassed of myself to.
The "Presidency" will never be looked at the same since Bill has shown his true colors.
There is kind of an insanity for anybody to think that in a Democratic Society, having 2 families in the WH for the last 27 years - and now going for another 8 on top of that, actually is a Democracy at all.

And racism.

I like Hillary Clinton. If she is the nominee I will vote for her. I will vote for Obama if he is the nominee. I can't speak for other women, but with me it is because I admire her toughness, her strength. She has persevered through a great deal in the last several years. And yes, there was a vast right-wing conspiracy out to get her and Bill. I do not condone what her husband did with his extra marital affairs, but she thought of her daughter and family and stuck with it. I could not have done it, but she did. She has earned the right to kick Republican butt out the door and enjoy doing it. I feel she will do everything in her power to try to get America back where we belong, liked and admired throughout the world. And she will work 24/7 doing it without running off to a pig ranch in Texas for long vacations. I feel I can count on her. I can't say that about any one else. If you like Obama, go for it. It helps to like a candidate. That is it in a nutshell.

23. About the uneducated part.... |
|
Edited on Wed Apr-23-08 08:25 PM by HereSince1628
This is my guess, it undoubtedly is painted by my own biases, I'm mid-50s and almost edumacated.
Without the benefit of education to muddy up a set of rules that makes interpreting the world rather black and white it seems a person might tend to go with the simple set of rules...
black and white thinking is one of Jost's et al cognitive motivators for conservative behavior.
Similarly, a smart but uneducated person often knows when they don't know something and they turn to other people to tell them...
The result is a willingness to accept being told what to think by authority figures, another of the findings of cognitive motivators for conservative behavior Jost
The uneducated folks lean conservative...Hillary rightly or wrongly is perceived as being more Conservative.
On edit...again my undoubtedly biased opinion...an educated person who challenges an uneducated person's world view by pointing out confounders and by undermining the things they see as authoritative is probably going to be resented for it, and called all kind of names like elitist, arrogant, out of touch, etc.

The idea that the only smart people are those that agree with your choice is insane. And that's exactly how this line of reasoning comes across. People have reasons for doing all kinds of things, plenty of them perfectly rational, even if it may not seem so to your own personal outlook. Not being college educated isn't a crime, and isn't a sign of stupidity. If you think that college graduates have some kind of lock on sanity I would posit that you're seriously misguided.
Just ask the Yale graduate named Bush.

Obviously he is not connecting with the working class, this is problematic for me...but like I said, I'm just not a Clinton fan.

And look, I've had it pretty darn hard in my life....that didn't make my brain totally shut down. I am part of the "group" that seems to support her and it just makes me sick.
My way of choosing my candidate is to look at the most pressing issues and to look at their actions or lack thereof, and make my decisions. HRC made many wrong decisions and has run a campaign, starting with a staggering warchst broke by Super Tuesday and started groveling in the mud shortly after that. Lies, inuendo///Poorly run campaign - broke after Super Tuesday....comeon what does it take to show that she isn't all that she cracks herslef up to be.

|
Edited on Thu Apr-24-08 09:51 PM by SoCalDem
My mother was one, so I can attest to at least her life story..probably fits many other too..
Women who are old NOW, are from a generation where marriage at 18 was the norm..
My mother married at 18, had me at 19, ..never worked outside the home. My father RAN the show, beat us up (among other disgusting stuff..but this is not the post for that)
She felt compelled to stay with him and put up with it all.
I never saw him abuse her, but he beat the hell out of me and probably the younger kids too (4 or us..but as the oldest, I split as soon as I could)
She had to ask him for money.. he controlled everything about her life.
She had few, if any friends, but he did pretty much whatever he wanted.
We were always told "Don't make him mad"..
She graduated from a Catholic Girls High School, and her parents highest education ..my grandfather./. was 6th grade..
her idea of high-humor was Lucille Ball.
She did not understand nuance, subtlety, irony.. Her education was about learning to be a wife & mother..and that's all she knew.
Even though she hated my father, she put up with it all because she felt that she had no choice.
My aunt took her on a round the world cruise and her main observation? People "over there" smelled bad..
Truthfully, by the time I was about 15, I had mentally outgrown my own mother..
I never saw her read a book.... only trash tabloids
....................................
Women like her see Hillary as someone they might have longed to be, but they never got past the bratty kids & mean husband..and they are now too old and/or scared to change their lives..
they may live vicariously through her..and take any criticism of HER , as criticism of their own dashed hopes
