Obama: If you brag about being a fighter, your not really one
Edited on Wed Apr-23-08 08:53 PM by monicaaida
Senator Barack Obama of Illinois was asked today about Senator Hillary Rodam Clinton of New York's claim that she's a fighter, and has survived the republican attacks. Senator Obama replied by saying "I grew up with good old Kansas values". "What those values say is that if your tough and a fighter you don't have to brag about it", "and what that suggest is that if your bragging your not really one". Then the Senator said that "it's false for Senator Clinton to say that she survived the Republican attacks because if she did she would be less polarizing".

39. Some of us are just worried about what's happening to our language.
It's not personal, no judgement on the mis-speller, just taking a stand in defense of something that has produced many works of great beauty and seems now to be in a constant state of deconstruction.

Seriously, that one makes no sense.

Now, Clinton can snap back "My opponent says he will give us change, but I have not seen any change yet. Where is the change, Barack Obama? Show us the beef!" And all the women will giggle.

Has it occurred to anyone that the Clinton camp is probably the best place to pick up women?

78. Utter bullshit, wrong on every count
Won't fight? What do you think he's been doing these past several weeks? Is he running a 'negative campaign' or is he 'afraid to fight'? Which is it? You can't have it both ways.

Won't debate? Hmmm. Last I checked, there have been over 20 debates, including several that were just him and Hillary. After being ambushed by those Sean Hannity written questions last week, after Hillary trying to tie him to Hamas, what is the need for further debate? Also, what about the fact that your candidate was the one who initially didn't want to debate in North Carolina?

Won't do interviews? He's done quite a few of them so far.

Won't let Michigan and Florida vote? Wrong. He didn't force them to break the rules. Why did your candidate wait until AFTER both states had already voted to decide she was suddenly going to fight for them? Why wasn't she pushing for some sort of solution when Michigan and Florida broke the rules?

21. And , as jgraz pointed out SO well in another thread:
"Where was her "fight" during the Senate confirmation of John Ashcroft?

Where was her "fight" during the Senate confirmation of Alberto Gonzales?

Where was her "fight" during the failed Senate confirmation of John Bolton?

Where was her "fight" when she voted FOR cloture on the nomination of corrupt corporatist Priscilla Owen, clearing the way for her confirmation to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals?

Where was her "fight" when she voted FOR cloture on the nomination of unqualified fascist Janice Rogers Brown, clearing the way for her confirmation to the DC Court of Appeals?

Where was her "fight" when she voted FOR cloture on the nomination of religious zealot and homophobe William H. Pryor, clearing the way for his confirmation to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals?

Where was her "fight" when she voted FOR cloture on the nomination of John Roberts, clearing the way for his confirmation as Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court?

Where was her "fight" during the Senate confirmation of Samuel Alito?

Where was her "fight" when she skipped the Senate debate and confirmation vote on Michael Mukasey?

Where was her "fight" against the Military Commissions Act?

Where was her "fight" during this summer's vote on the Iraq War Supplemental?

Where was her "fight" during the vote to extend FISA?

Where was her "fight" during the Walter Reid scandal?

Where was her "fight" during the debate on Telecom Immunity?

Where was her "fight" when she SKIPPED the Senate vote to strip TelCo immunity from the FISA bill?

Where was her "fight" on the possible impeachment of Dick Cheney?

Where was her "fight" on the possible impeachment of George Bush?

Where was her "fight" against the myriad scandals surrounding the current administration?

Where was her "fight" when she campaigned for Joe Lieberman against Ned Lamont?

Where was her "fight" when she proposed legislation to ban flag burning?

Where was her "fight" when she voted FOR the 2001 Bankruptcy Bill?

Where was her "fight" when she voted FOR the USAPATRIOT act?

Where was her "fight" when she voted FOR the renewal USAPATRIOT act?

Where was her "fight" when she voted AGAINST an amendment to prevent the use of cluster bombs against civilian populations?

Where was her "fight" when she voted FOR the Iraq War Resolution?

Where was her "fight" when she voted FOR the Kyl/Lieberman amendment?

For some reason, Hillary Clinton only seems to be "a fighter" when she's fighting to feed her own naked ambition. Is that really what we want in a president?"

Reminds me of what I've always said about Ted Nugent: he wouldn't have to go around telling everyone he was "the alpha male" if he actually was, because alpha males don't need to brag about it, they just ARE. Nugent is an alpha-male-wannabe; beta male at best. :P

65. maybe but not really.
During her life, she was known by four different names, each representing a distinct chapter. In the course of the Stanley period, her family moved more than five times—from Kansas to California to Texas to Washington—before her 18th birthday. Her father, a furniture salesman, had a restlessness that she inherited.

Even his mother was not raised in Kansas. The Kansas values is just what a pandering politician does. Hillary did it, and your candidate does it to. Get over it he is a politician.

67. Who says he's not a politician? Get over it yourself.
He was raised by his mother and his Kansan grandparents. I was born and raised in NYC. I don't live there now, but believe me, I haven't lost the culture that was instilled in me. Nobody ever does.

68. The quote is here - I agree with every word of it

It is what I heard him say on a CNN clip. I didn't hear the Kansas part, although it fits and I'm not disputing that:

"Senator Clinton has been trying a lot of different approaches and a lot of different criticism. This is sort of the kitchen sink strategy," Obama told reporters in New Albany, Indiana Wednesday after the town hall meeting. "And you know I know that people like to talk tough and use a lot of rhetoric about fighting and obliterating and all that stuff. You know that I have always believed that if you are tough you don't have to talk about it."

Here it is again from a different source:

Clinton has tried to underline her message that she is the tougher candidate by running an ad featuring images of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

The Republican National Committee has weighed in as well, suggesting Obama tries to dodge hard questions from the media.

“I know that people like to talk tough and use a lot of rhetoric about fighting and obliterating and all that stuff. You know that I have always believed that if you are tough, you don’t have to talk about it,” Obama said.

81. Fighting WAS ALSO SHOWBIZ for Ali - and bragging is part of it. He DID fight, too. Hillary DOESN'T
fight FOR any issue except her elections.
