Clinton raising $10 million since victory, campaign says

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who has trailed rival Barack Obama in fundraising, is set to bring in some $10 million (5.05 million pounds) in the 24 hours since she won Pennsylvania's primary election, her campaign said on Wednesday.

"Senator Clinton's game-changing victory last night has turned the tide and resulted in an historic outpouring of grass-roots support," campaign Chairman Terry McAuliffe said in a statement.

He said 60,000 donors had contributed by midday on Wednesday, of which 50,000 were new givers.

Clinton, a New York senator, raised $20.9 million in March compared to $42.8 million raised by Obama, a senator from Illinois.

Clinton beat Obama in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, but he leads nationally in the race for the Democratic presidential nomination.

If she has, good on her. But that is not what the actual quote says.

12. Yeah, the same guy who ...
... in the last 48 hours, has declared that Hillary is ahead in the popular vote (of course he counts MI and FL), won in MI (where Obama wasn't on the ticket), and the "fact" that Obama took his name off the MI ballot not because it was agreed that MI wouldn't count, but because he knew he was going to be trounced by Hillary.

Jesus H. Christ, what a tool.

24. Questioning Hillary's numbers

Questioning Hillary's numbers

Covering online fundraising is tricky. Reporters conventionally take campaigns' claims on faith; small-dollar contributions, then, are not required to be itemized, so they're hard to check. But with so little information, it's also hard to call numbers into question.

But Micah Sifry, of TechPresident, a fair-minded guy without a dog in the fight, doesn't buy some of Clinton's claims:

An email from Terry McAuliffe, Clinton campaign chairman, that I received three hours ago, says "More than 50,000 people have contributed to the campaign for the very first time in the last 24 hours alone." If 80% of Clinton's donations are from new givers, that implies a total number of about 60,000 donations. If we're very generous and assume an average donation of $100, which is high for first-time donors, that gives Clinton a current take of at most $6 million.

His logic makes sense to me. One way campaigns sometimes spin this: They steer large donors to the website, then count them as online donors. Still.

more

Does anyone find it strange that Hillary raised only $8 million for the primary in March, and suddenly raises more than that in a day?

31. Here's that stupid math thing again:
"As I suspected, the "Hillary raised $10 million online overnight" report that the Washington Post ran with earlier today was too good to be true. I don't know if the mistake is the reporter's or if someone at Camp Hillary was spinning a bit too fast, but there's no way they raised that much since her win in Pennsylvania yesterday.

If we're very generous and assume an average donation of $100, which is high for first-time donors, that gives Clinton a current take of at most $6 million."

http://www.techpresident.com/blog/entry/24473/show_us_some_real_money_hillary

And I want some reporter to ask the question - of any money that was raised, how much of it was primary money and how much is GE money?

34. Basically, either an exageration or a lie or a misstatement
Depending on how you look at these things. They said they had raised 10 million, which created a lot of excitement. Then is was "projected to raise 10 million", then it was 3.5 million, and the last I heard 2.9 million.

Kind of non-news...
