I love Bill Richardson as a VP for Obama but |
|
do you think it is feasible? Is America ready for not only a black man(1/2) but a VP that is a Mexican-American? Look at the racism that Obama has had to endure in this race and thats just from Democrats. Without a doubt Richardson was one of the most if not most qualified of our presidential candidates. With the Clinton's exploiting race in this election and seeing that at times it has limited success, unfortunately I don't see it happening. This is a relevant concern
and yes Hill supporters the Clinton's have played the race card as recently at the debate when hill threw out farrakhan (SIC)without prompting so don't deny it
by the way I am Mexican-American

2. I'd vote for that ticket! |
|
I think Richardson brings a lot to the table in terms of experience and knowledge. He'd help win some western states, too.

3. Do the sheeple even KNOW that Richardson is Mexican-American? |
|
If his name was "Ramirez" instead of Richardson, it would be obvious even to them, but they might think of "Richardson" as an "American" name, and think he just has a decent tan because he lives in New Mexico.

14. Believe me, if he gets the VP slot |
|
the media will make sure that everyone knows his racial origins. They will mention it constantly and ask whether whites will vote for a black-mexican ticket. Constantly. It's all we'll hear about.
So while I like Richardson, I think the safe choice (to make "race" as small a part of this election as possible) would be a guy like Sam Nunn, or Webb, a conservative white male Democrat with military/foreign policy credentials.

9. Bill Maher, Obama supporter, called that ticket "too down with the brown." |
|
I don't think he's a good choice. For EITHER candidate.
He's a polarizing figure for half the party right now.

17. Bill Maher is an enthusiastic Obama supporter. |
|
And most of his girlfriends are black.
He calls himself a libertarian. I think he refusess to be categorized.
He wasn't saying it to be vicious, he was saying that the US electorate would view that ticket as "too minority." As he said, "Too down with the brown."
FWIW.

15. I have seen many posters here that would pick Richardson |
|
He would certainly be my choice.
I am African American and I believe I know how you feel.
If the situation was in reverse, I would think that OBAMA would be one too many minorities for PA and Ohio.
The good part about the Richardson lovers at DU is that they respect him for his honesty, political eperience and the content of his character.
Those are the qualities that elections should be about ~ :patriot:

if people aren't going to vote for Obama because he is black, a Hispanic VP makes no difference. The racist vote is already out of the picture.
