He managed crisis response operations for terrorist incidents throughout the world and he helped organize and direct the US Government’s debriefing of US citizens held in Kuwait and Iraq, which provided vital intelligence on Iraqi operations following the 1990 invasion of Kuwait. Mr. Johnson also participated in the investigation of the terrorist bombing of Pan Am 103. Face it. Obama is doing a 21st Century update on the Dukakis riff, with this important exception–the Democrats have not committed the equivalent of political suicide yet.

But as Susan notes below, the Republicans are not waiting for the convention to start hanging the albatross of Jeremiah “Goddamn the KKK of Amerikka” Wright around the neck of anyone who supports Obama. This is guilt by association and standard politics.

Obama sitting in church with Wright for 20 years and calling him Uncle is not guilt by association. He is guilty because of close association.Little comfort to other Dems running for office who tie themselves to Barack’s coattails. They will find Barack’s name to be useful currency only if it is in predominantly African American districts or wealthy enclaves where said black folks normally aren’t welcome to hang around. Otherwise, said politician will be toast.

It is only a matter of time before Obama’s ties to questionable characters like Ayers, Rezko, and Wright will become a staple for Jay Leno and David Letterman.

For example, there is a joke circulating among Hillary supporters. It is in poor taste and juvenile and therefore, in my view, very funny:

What do Barack Obama and Osama Bin Laden have in common? They both have friends who bombed the Pentagon

If Super Delegates pursue their death wish and toss support to Barack despite his pathetic show in the last five primaries then this is only the beginning of the jokes. Mark my words–Barack will be looking for the funny-looking tank helmet Mike Dukakis wore while sitting in a turret.

Looking foolish will be the least of his concerns. He’ll be seeking shelter from the verbal brickbats hurled at him. But it is the Democrats’ who will suffer the real damage. Their chance of regaining control of the White House will be extinguished as the images of Ayers, Wright, and Rezko are seared into the American conscience. And if you believe the Republicans won’t do this, just look at North Carolina today.

Taking a line from TO better get your popcorn ready..

1. If the SDs steal it for Hillary: Greatly reduced AA and youth vote. Greatly reduced help from
the activist base that she has criticized, greatly reduced income (considering Obama can basically bring in twice what she can). Now throw in her sky high negatives, a war hero, and a motivated GOP base.....yeah, hello president McCain!

how other segments react to the ticket.

5. Republicans will come out in droves to defeat her
she is the most hated Democrat in the wingnut world. . .and has been for years.

Let's see her game plan - alienate a majority of the Democratic base, capitalize on her inability to attract independents, and rally the Republicans to defeat her.

Tired and uninspiring. Can you spell GOP U-N-D-E-R-V-O-T-E??? It's not the 1980's and "Morning in America" any more. Despite the latter day Willie Horton tactics, Barack's theme of uniting the country will prevail, and the GOP will suffer a major collapse come November.

Here is something you can take to the bank - if HRC is nominated
the Republicans will roll right over her as if she wasn't even there.

Remember when wild Bill couldn't keep his pud in his pants - Hillary defended
him - and she made it out to be a republican conspiracy against Billy.

Let's face it, the Dems are going down in flames and it really doesn't matter
who's nominated - the Sword of Damocles, is hanging over both of their heads.

McCain is looking like a more easier and less complicated pick.

He clearly is a racist asshole.

Comparing Obama to Dukakis is absolutely bereft of any political logic.

Larry just can't see himself voting for a n*gger. He would write a column that Barack uses Old Spice, hence is a dumb negro...

Thinking that Hillary Clinton (at this point having LOST the race) as some kind of candidate not "attackable" by the Repigs is reprehensibly dishonest to the core.

61. Great comedy writing: "his pathetic show in the last five primaries"
Edited on Thu Apr-24-08 10:09 AM by onenote
Let's check that "pathetic" show (and its actually six primaries):

PA: lost by 9%, having cut Clinton lead essentially in half
MS: won by 24%
VT: won by 20%
TX: lost popular vote by 4%, won majority of delegates
RI: lost by 18 percent
Ohio: lost by 10 percent

In terms of pledged delegates over that period, giving HRC a 12 delegate pickup in PA (which may or may not be what the final total turns out to be), Obama finished a paltry 9 delegates behind HRC out of the last six contests.

Of course, this also leaves out the Wyoming caucuses which took place during this same interval and which gave Obama two more delegates over HRC, cutting her net gain during this period of "pathetic" performance to 7 delegates.

All of which leads to the following question: if this was a "pathetic" performance, what word do we use to describe HRC's performance up until these last six primaries?
