You know that even if HRC overtakes BO in pop. vote it won't work right? |
|
I don't want you HRC peeps to get your hopes up and be let down.
If HRC overtakes BO is popular vote, BO will make the easy argument that his totals were suppressed because of low-turnout caucuses in some of his strongholds like Nebraska, Kansas, and other mountain/mid-west states.
Had they been primaries, he might have racked up 100,000+ margins. BO can only play by the rules.
The mix of caucus/primaries in the democratic primary is exactly why popular vote is not used as a metric.

1. Nope. Look at WA. Caucus: 28 point margin. Primary: 5.6 point margin. He netted fewer votes out of |
|
the primary than out of the caucus.

2. There is no comparison. 1 counted, 1 didn't. Which one are people more motivated for? |

4. The one which got three times the turnout. Oh wait, that was the primary. |

5. Exactly! Now you get it! |
|
caucus <10% turnout
primaries >10% turnout
pop vote means sh*t.

9. LOL, once again, in a primary that had three times as many voters, Obama's margin was half. |
|
Half of his margin in the caucus.
Facts are stubborn.

14. your THEORY about margins in nice. but facts are you can't mix caucus and primary results |
|
and come up with a meaningful popular vote total. the systems are too different.

but the caucus votes haven't even been counted. He'd probably rather take the +36,000 from the primary.
And we all know he would have done better in the primary if it counted. Younger people don't do something for no reason.

11. The popular vote give caucus voters just as much weight as primary voters |
|
The pledged delegate system gives Wyoming voters 16.64 times the weight of California voters.
Which one do you think is going to seem more democratic?
Besides, it doesn't do any good to be like "well my turnout would have been higher if we had primaries". The fact that Obama does worse in primaries shows us that caucuses don't bring out a representative set of voters.
