Republicans= Shit. Check this story out.

So here I am, in PA. Living in the suburbs of Philadelphia. The local Republican party here is strong.
They are old, corrupt and completely devoid of character.

One of the Repubs in power here (at the county level) revealed to me and a group of other democrats (Yes, the bastard is really that snide)yesterday
that his wife changed her party affiliation to DEM for the primaries so that she could vote for Obama.
He told us that the wives & adult children of the Repubs in the area had switched to DEM for the primaries
in order to vote Obama. BUT- they are all changing their party affiliation back to Repub now.

The reason they did this? Because, and I quote, "No black man could possibly win against a war hero".

Now, I am no Obama supporter. I'd barely call myself a Hillary supporter. But I am an American and
what he said made me sick. I could give you a laundry list of reasons why this guy is scum, but this takes the cake.

His crazy bullshit finally sealed the deal for me. NO MATTER WHO THE NOMINEE IS, I AM VOTING. I was all ready to sit this one
out but there is NO WAY I can sit on my ass and let these ass hats get another 8 years. They are vile, corrupt, disgusting and evil.

On a side note: Being a Democrat in this area is pretty tricky, especially if you work for or with the Townships. You are
bluntly told that being a registered Republican will make your life "easier". For this reason, I had been a registered Repub
since I was 18. In 2004 I switched to DEM and joined in my local party to help get dems elected- volunteering, phone banking, canvassing etc. A bunch of us who were actually Dems switched party affiliation that year. I'm 34 and I have been registered since 18.
Until 2004 I was never called for jury duty. Since I registered Dem?? I've been called 5 times.
The other people who changed their party affiliation? Also inundated with jury duty summons.
Coincidence? Maybe. But it seems shady.

3. It was revolting
Really. Who is SO evil that they think up something like that, much less do it?

2. The jury thing is kind of a positive if you think about it.
A bunch of Dems makes for a much smarter jury.

4. That is true. I just find it odd.
I guess the only reason I noticed was because I had never been called before.

16. If the Repub power structure is calling...
only Democrats for jury duty, then they have a conscience that's buried deep - and working against them. What will happen when a Republican goes on trial? Justice!

5. Election reform laws could prevent this kind of fraud.
Edited on Thu Apr-24-08 10:03 AM by EnviroBat
Simply make it illegal for anyone to change their declared party affiliation from the primary to general election. If you register as a Dem in the primary, that's it, you're a Dem in the general as well. No bullshit. No games. How fucking hard can this be?

Right now it isn't illegal & they think they are SO clever for doing it.

15. Ummm, a question.
What difference do you think party registration makes in the GE? I ask because someone in another thread made a similar comment, and I'm trying to figure out why you think party affiliation would matter in November.

19. I think the point there is
that they want to be Repubs when it's convention time because they can go- (at least thats what the guy I know said)
and they also do campaigning etc.

21. If you think about that, what would it accomplish?
The GE's are open for anyone in either Party to vote for candidates in any Party. I think shananigans lilke that happen in all primaries in every State, but it's done on a very small scale and really doesn't make a material difference. PLUS if someone switches Parties just to muck up the opposition's primary, they give up their chance to vote for any of their own candidates on the down ticket.

7. CNN did an analysis of the 5% that said they were voting dem, but wouldn't come fall...
HRC took them 2:1. Upon further analysis, they determined it equated to approximately 1.7% of her total. Interesting analysis. He wins by 9.2%-1.7%=7.5% win. Take it for what it's worth, but CNN has always been the most generous to Clinton.

11. No chit!!
I don't know how these people get up in the morning.

The funniest thing is, these people HATE McCain. They were all pro Romney.
Oddly, most Repubs I know are all loathe to vote for McCain.
But they are so indoctrinated to the Repub lie machine, they will do anything to keep it going.

9. I understand what you are saying. If one follows Republican
Pundits and Reporters, they do not hesitate to say they view Obama
as the weaker of our two candidates and therefore they believe
he is easier to beat.

I have and continue to believe that most GOPers who vote in our
Primaries plan to vote Republican in the fall. Yes a few will
stick with us, but the great majority will return to their party.

10. Common practice of Repubs for years to do this. They think they're so clever.
Lie, cheat, steal. Whatever is necessary to maintain control. They have nothing but contempt for people who don't think the way they do. Rules aren't made for them. They're better.

17. I never heard anyone say before that they did it, or thought it was ok.
It's nauseating.

Just another reason to loathe this guy though. If it weren't vital to my job (and that of 20 other people) to stay off his radar, I'd be down right belligerent to him.

14. We in the Philly suburbs have been suffering under repuke rule forever. Even
though inroads have been made (for instance, there are fewer incidences of Democratic registrations winding up in the trash than in earlier years), the power structure is still very much in place.

Your "side-note" about the punishments (no municipal contracts and more jury duty) for the crime of registering Democratic has always been true as well. And just because you are called for jury duty does not mean you are allowed to be on a jury. It mostly is used as a harrassing tactic by the pukes.

Until the Dems in Montco, Bucks, Chester and Delaware Counties learn to fight back against the thugs, we will continue to be treated as second-class citizens.
