14. That is, if you trust Terry McAwful's word
And if you do, you're not paying attention.

"donate $5" is code for "Hey corporations and lobbyists, you better start bundling cash for me or we'll never get to nuke Iran."

44. I have it from an inside source that she rec'd over 10 mil in the 24 hours
after the PA primary was called for her.

All of us started asking friends to chip in whatever small amt. they could.

My Hillstar group raised over $500 this way...

Just sayin.

Who are you trying to impress? Ask your 'inside source' (which I suspect to be located in your gut, or possibly to be the same mass campaign emails that I get) what percentage o her funds were available for use in the primary.

95. Did Hillary not accept..
$5 donations before? I think the grass roots effort behind the Obama Campaign is about the number of donors, not the amount given. Although I myself have not given more than $20.00 at a time.

53. As evidenced here, a large number of Sen. Obama supporters seem to be financially secure with a lot
of time on their hands.

Sen. Clinton's campaign spent about 1/3 of what his campaign spent and won. Throwing lots of money into a campaign and hoping thatalone will insure a win, demonstrates a lack of frugality, in a manner of speaking. His campaign seems to say that money is no object, spend, spend, spend, win or lose. I know that's not the message, but when she wins with much less financial investment, by being strategic and engaging one on one with voters, she looks good by comparison.

Those who balance working for a living and caring for family and poor health care access and are being hit badly by fuel/food prices with no financial safety net and are still trying to be involved in our communities, as well as grabbing some online time, seem to be gravitating toward Sen. Clinton.

Those who wear A & C and eat arugula (not that there's anything wrong with that) and have time to spend hours and hours and days and days of uninterrupted time online and who make fun of low income people are seeming to be a strong component of his supporters.

Vive Le Difference.

61. There's nothing wrong with arugula, Abercrombie & Fitch and being well off and
not having to work for living and thusly able to stay online all day, every day. Good for them, I say! And, I would venture a guess that Sen. Obama is just fine with that demographic strongly supporting him.

The making fun of low income people, though, is throughout this thread and requires no crystal ball.

is that what Hillary supporters do insinuate and speculate as they are doing by trying to say anyone who Obama associates with means that he has all of their beliefs. Did I tell you my income level, did I disparge people because they are donating to hillary. No, I was giving you a heads up that your candidate desperately needs your help...

84. Wow.....
I'd comment more, but you know, I have to get to my part-time temp job, then make an interview for a job to replace the one that I lost last month. Oh, and do all this while getting a six year old ready for school, worry about keeping her fed and a roof over her head, that type of thing. The fun of being a 42 year old white male who's unemployed. Hardly "elitist"

I'm one of those who "balance working for a living and caring for family and poor health care access and are being hit badly by fuel/food prices with no financial safety net and are still trying to be involved in our communities, as well as grabbing some online time."

Which is why I support Sen. Obama. Because I feel Sen. Clinton would be more of the same.

is so bad at managing money. The grass roots campaign of Senator Obama is evident from the amount of donors, not the dollar figure of each donor. Why is Senator Clinton now asking for $5 donations. Did she not accept them before?

just to not lose by twenty points, it's a good thing he has all those guppies willing to give up their Gametap and iPod Download money for him. When he starts asking for their World of Warcraft subscription cash, though, he might have to go back to the Crown Family of Chicago and get himself some more of that General Dynamics cash!

62. I've donated to her campaign before
and I've never voted for a republican-not once.

Why make facts up? Not everyone is a republican operative. Not everyone is out to get you just because they chose not to vote for your candidate of choice.

Whatever happened to the days of the "big tent" party? According to our site here those days are long gone.

I am a free-thinking woman and did it all on my own.

73. It's about time
She finally caught up with what the Obama campaign has been doing all along - asking for small donations from supporters instead of soliciting large ones from corporate types and hitting up wealthy people for maximum one-shot funding.

80. I don't like the insinuation that I am stupid...................
for doing that. I have probably lived longer than you have although to some on this board I must be without any mental capacity. and you seem to be one of them. It is attitudes like yours that are dividing the Democratic party and when John McCain gets sworn in for President I hope that you are in the front row.

82. not accountable for anyone's lack of subtlety or humor
even mine...

I didn't say a word to you

If you're unaware, televangelists from the time of radio and tent revivals have pushed people that are poor, to make even tiny donations...

if all you have is five bucks to send to Clinton... pray for her and KEEP your money...

you're not stupid... she's unscrupulous... and predatory, get it?

btw, I make a joke about her unscrupulousness and desperation and now I'm electing john mccain?

I don't think so

81. They're 'clinging' to their 'hope' that Hillary beats the Yuppie Messiah
Edited on Fri Apr-25-08 05:51 AM by Tactical Progressive
They see Obama for the shallow, self-impressed poser that he is.
They see someone who lies, smears and race-baits at every turn, with the media's blessing and assistance.
They see the Clinton-hating cable 'news' whores give him hours of free attack TV against Hillary, every single day.

They're willing to give their hard-earned $5 to try to stop all of that, and it's starting to work.

So make fun of the poor people all you want. Obama and his team are probably doing it too.

88. She knows that not all her supporters are part of the latte crowd.
She modestly asks for $5, but usually gets much more than that per donor. Instead of your snarky post, read the messages on her website, some are very heartwarming. Like the little girl that sent her weekly allowance or the single mother who brown bagged her lunches for 2 two weeks to afford to send a donation.

I'm soooo tired of the Obama supporters disparaging those who support Senator Clinton!!! SHE is the one who is getting the votes of the base of the party. Yes, those working class stiffs who built this country and who many of you like to treat with disdain.

On this board which I refer to as the Obama board you can't be for anyone but him. You can say "undecided" but never that you support Hillary. And all the dissension on this board is the reason McCain may well be the next President.

Any small donation counts and could make a candidate's coffers grow.

92. I seriously doubt that her winning one primary has suddenly
unleashed an avalanche of donations. She's deeply in debt, not paying her bills and she needs the $$$. And I wouldn't, for one single second, believe the BS coming out of her campaign regarding totals unless they were substantiated by proof.

98. I can believe it. With all the talk in the media calling for her to quit, the win
in Pennsylvania has been a big boost for her supporters. Whether they give $5.00 or max out on their contribution, the number of donations must be a bog boost for Hillary. There is still a lot of excitement in her campaign.

Any way you slice it and dice it, $10M in a 24 hour period is pretty impressive. There may not be any positive proof of this yet, but many in the media are reporting it as truth, although I don't know what their sources are.

97. Exactly as she should have been doing.
The campaign doing the leg-work to collect the little money as well as the big is winning, and at this point may be more or less on auto-pilot with respect to small donations. The old dog may be trying to learn a new trick, but it's too late, I think. I don't believe that Clinton's campaign apparatus is flexible enough for this initiative to make a difference going forward.
