19. Damage has been done. This is an old, pig-slop political tactic...
Edited on Thu Apr-24-08 02:41 PM by PoliticalAmazon
...Tell the media a controversial ad is going to be run and that "McCain" (or whomever the politician is who ostensibly will benefit from it) doesn't want it to be run.

This is a win-win situation for McCain (and Hillary): McCain looks like the good-guy, the ad gets as much play as it would have from running it, and the GOP gets to say they "took the high road and decided not to run it."

you're not wrong, but I think you're overestimating the 'damage'.

48. FM 101 WZTK condemned the ad today, spent about 2 hours talking about the issue
The Brad and Britt Show, FM Talk 101.1 at WZTK spent alot of their show discussing and condemning the NC GOP's ad that smears the two Dem candidates for Gov, Obama and his pastor Wright.

This show seems to be one that both liberals and conservatives listen too, Brad is a republican, although he admits that his wife will vote for Hillary (to his chagrin).

I sent them an email to thank them for covering this issue and to ask that they discuss it some more.

Will you please send an email to Brad and Britt? Also send this to your other favorite radio or media contacts.

bradandbritt@curtismedia.com

Send them this Fox News video footage of the Priest who defends Pastor Wright and dresses down the Fox news reporter interviewing him. Of course, Fox news didn't show the nearly half hour video, but clipped it to a 10 -20 second blurb that was insulting. Its amazing how the media can make anyone appear to be a monster if that is their goal, and if they control the edit button.

Brad and Britt, please watch this video, and consider running portions of it on your show:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0wvQMqSzTM

Former Pastor Jeremiah Wright is not a racist, he's not anti-American or a bigot according to those that know him.

Catholic priest, Michael Pfleger, is the lastest person to speak out in defense of the reverand following the firestorm of controversy generated by mainstream media. Pfleger speaks of the double standard in media coverage based on race, and racial injustices that still exist today in America.

Further, there is no mathematical way that Senator Clinton can earn/win the nomination, but the media is prolonging the contest by dishonest reporting because it increases their ratings and earnings. This goes for Huffington Post (liberal blog) as well, which is a profit oriented venture.

Really shameful. Take a 4 second clip from Wright and use it to attack Obama and every Dem running in NC.

It could be that she truly is working for McCain now, and is willing to take the hit for him.

17. Their work is done.. They already got every news venue in the US to air it for free
several times... then when McCain "denounced" it (wink-wink), they all RE-RAN it and discussed it for hours & hours..and now a week later they "pull" it, and guess what? The media shows it over and over and over again and discusses it some more.

Pretty good coverage for a non-ad, eh?

and it's on YouTube and being emailed like crazy.. media just advertised for them for free ..:puke:

and in a few weeks, there will be a story about the YouTube-ification of the ad, and they'll all cue it up some more & talk about it again...

and in the general, Mccain will use the "story" as a way to convey his "clean: campaign. and and and and ..you guessed it

republicans are NOT STUPID.. just evil and devious

It hurts me to say these words. Clinton could have really come through and made herself a symbol of decency, and put a halt to her negative polling numbers. But she didn't. Thank you Sen. McCain. I salute you. :patriot:

29. Can we stop getting so personal about mccain now??
Yes, he's absolutely the wrong person the to lead the country, but he's done some good things in his life and has a certain amount of decency so we shouldn't have these personal attacks saying how bad a guy he is.

And honestly, I don't care if he cheated on his first wife, or his second. It's a private matter. The old guy likes sex, so what?

23. Maybe Dean shamed McCain...saying he could not control NC GOP
http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/04/howard_dean_enters_battle_over.php

""This is a test of leadership for John McCain. If he can't pick up the phone and make members of his own party stop airing a television ad he claims to oppose, how can he lead our country through an economic crisis or the war in Iraq?" Dean said in a statement just emailed over by the DNC. "If he is serious, he will get this ad pulled."

51. Think this might be the reason?
The new ad, of course, is intending to scare, not inform. It's affiliated with a website called ExposeObama.com, which was registered by Floyd Brown and is run by Bruce Hawkins, a former field organizer for Pat Buchanan and Pat Robertson who recently worked for Mike Huckabee in Iowa. According to public records, Hawkins filed for bankruptcy in 2005 and the IRS filed tax liens against him for $159,180 that year and again in 2007 for $245,000. It's unclear whether he's since resolved the issue.

Yet Brown and Hawkins can't simply be dismissed as a bunch of crackpots (even if they are). Their website lists the same address as the Impacto Group in Washington, a Hispanic media firm run by Leslie Sanchez, prominent GOP talking head who's worked for the RNC and the Bush White House. The original head of research & development for Impacto was GOP pollster Lance Tarrance, a senior strategist for John McCain's Straight Talk America PAC.
