Obama Campaign Announces North Carolina Veterans for ObamaBy Zachary Scott Edwards - Apr 24th, 2008 at 12:52 pm EDT
Medal of Honor Recipient Paul Bucha, Decorated Vietnam War Veteran and Former President of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, to Campaign for Senator ObamaRaleigh, NC—Senator Barack Obama’s North Carolina campaign today announced North Carolina Veterans for Obama. The group includes leaders of prominent veterans’ services organizations and veterans of Vietnam, Operation Desert Storm, and the ongoing war in Iraq. Medal of Honor recipient Paul Bucha, a decorated Vietnam War veteran, former President of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and top Obama campaign supporter, kicked-off the announcement of the group today. Bucha will campaign for Senator Obama across the state on Thursday and Friday, meeting with veterans and military spouses and organizing support for Senator Obama in the days leading up to the May 6 primary.
“As a member of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, Senator Obama has one of the strongest track records of fighting for veterans and their families,” Bucha said. “Now, as a presidential candidate, he has pledged a comprehensive approach to upholding the sacred trust with our service members and their families, from the moment they enlist through their service and re-entry into society.”
Senator Obama knows that the true measure is how we provide for those who serve, and for their families. Obama has introduced a plan to improve mental health care at every stage of military service and expand the VA’s capacity to treat psychological injury. As President, Obama will fully fund the VA, expand Vet Centers, revamp the current benefits system, and put in place a “zero tolerance” policy for veterans falling into homelessness.
“As a veteran, I have total confidence that Senator Obama will lead our country with honor,” said Navy veteran and North Carolina native Acie Byrd. “I know he’ll do whatever it takes to make sure this country stands by those who serve and defend it.”
Senator Obama has shown the judgment and ability to be Commander in Chief. He opposed the war in Iraq from the beginning, even as the Washington establishment lined up for war. Unwavering in his opposition to the war, Obama has a plan to responsibly end the war and restore America’s standing in the world. Obama has said that his first priority as president is to bring our troops out Iraq, and as Commander in Chief he will keep the sacred trust with the nation’s veterans and continue to stand up for our veterans and their families.
