Barack Wanted To Have an Open Honest Discussion about Race
Now I see his supporters complaining about it.

What gives?

2. If having an "open honest discussion about race..."
Means people outing themselves as white supremacists; well then I'll argue against it, but I won't complain about people coming out of that particular closet.

Because then at least we know what is what.

5. Well, let's see.
There were the two long term posters that outed themselves this morning pushing the "Obama is a muslim" meme.

There was the long term guy that got banned two days ago for posting racist material.

There was the racist who attacked that little black girl yesterday, and the several people who laughed at his racist joke.

There's the woman who's physically afraid of black people, claiming her daughter was once attacked by one.

... do I really need to go on?

7. Was it during the day. I am not on du during the day, plus I don't read all posts, but I'm glad
they are gone.

Now back to the OP, why is it that when Matthews discusses Barack's difficulty with white people off limits?

Now I can't stand the motherfucker, but most O supporters here have loved him and agreed with him for over three months.

8. How is Bill Clinton lying about his use of the phrase "race card" an honest discussion?
Edited on Thu Apr-24-08 06:47 PM by Dr Fate
Since when is lying about whether you said "race card" or not an honest discussion?

Why did he feel the need to lie about it at all?

Since when is Clinton's Willie Horton style tactics-like trying to associate Obama with Farrakkan & the Nation of Islam, an honest discussion about race?

Trying to upset & race-bait white conservative swing-voters is not what Obama meant- LOL!!!

14. I think any discussion race is tough, but Barack pleaded for openess and honesty. Matthews
is talking about Barack's difficulty with white voters and I wonder why that is off limits?

18. He is certainly having difficulty with certain types of white voters, but not all white voters.
Edited on Thu Apr-24-08 07:04 PM by Dr Fate
I thought that all the "elite"(non racist?), white voters liked him, according to even Team Clinton's conventional wisdom.

In any event, I had no idea it was off limits-I've been discussing related issues all day- in fact, its being discussed here in this very thread!

What I've learned out of all of this is that the old Willie Horton style race baiting & codes still works-especially with the white voters that Obama is having trouble with.

In any event it's clear that an honest discussion on race is the last thing the Clintons want- but just to bleat out "Farrakkan" and "race card" and such.

13. From your track record,
you don't seem interested in having an open and honest discussion about anything.

16. there is a difference between an open and honest discussion
and backroom meetings with Superdelegates where you tell them he is unelectable because he is Black.

Fuck that notion and the People who hold it!

17. Do you have a link or proof from a reputable source?
The real reason for my post was why can't the media discuss race, why is it off limits to discuss Barack's difficulty with white voters?

19. If she is willing to race-bait conservative swing voters, she is probably willing to race-bait SDs.
Edited on Thu Apr-24-08 07:04 PM by Dr Fate
Hopefully the SDs are not as gullible to lies as racist, conservative swing-voters are.

20. why do state where Obama wins because of Blacks not count,
yet states where Hillary wins because of Whites count more?

It is a ludicrous premise.
White people will vote for Obama. That is why he is winning.

25. She never said that. If she did then all but a handful of his wins would be argued against
What she has said is Obama has won states we have no shot in during the general election and it is just a coincidence that the states with the largest black populations, with the exception of Maryland, are red states. Is she saying anything about Obama's win in Missouri or Connecticut?

24. They don't want this fact to get out: Obama has limited appeal beyond his ethnic group
Edited on Thu Apr-24-08 08:01 PM by jackson_dem
Nationally he has gotten roughly 85% of the black vote but only 42-43 of the non-black vote (minus FL. With FL the numbers are worse). He routinely scores in the 30's with Latinos. With whites he was hovering close to the 50% mark of the Clinton vs. Obama vote until he tanked with whites and Latinos after he took a few punches starting in February when the MSM honeymoon sort of ended. Since then he has lost Latinos 66-32 in Texas and lost Latino wards in Philadelphia by the same margins. Among whites he has gotten 37% in OH, 44% in TX, 38% in RI, 60% in VT, 21% in MS, and 37% in PA since then in states for which he have exit poll data. This terrifies the superdelegates and Obamites think they can somehow quash discussion of this on the internet and the MSM that the supers will somehow not look at these numbers. This won't go away. Obama needs to have a good showing among whites in Indiana and North Carolina and avoid an embarrassing loss in West Virginia, basically an all working class white state. If Obama gets something in the 20's or very low 30's the gag rule may be lifted because it will be hard to ignore it then. There will be no temporary primary masking of this in WV.

He doesn't have to win whites. No Democrat has to. He just has to get to at least 43% in a general election to win assuming he takes 2/3 of Latinos and 90% of blacks as well as 60% of Asians. He may perform eerily similar to Mondale: less than 40% of the white vote (Kerry got 41%. Do you think Obama will get more? Kerry wasn't losing the white vote in almost every state like Obama does in the primaries), narrowly win Hispanics, and maintain 90% black support. We know what the result was with Mondale. You can do this in the Dem primaries when the black vote and Obama's affluent Starbucks crowd votes are double what they will be in the GE. In the general election, as Mondale proved, such numbers won't cut it.
