Hillary in Asheville, NC Tonight.
She came to my hometown, less than a mile from my house, scheduled for the Civic Center at 8pm. The Civic Center holds about 7,000, so I figured I would be get in. They moved it to the Auditorium in the same complex, which holds only 2,000-3,000. They changed venues just 30 minutes or so before the doors opened.

I waited in line for nearly an hour, but didn't make it in. My estimate is around 500-1,000 people got shut out. It was disappointing. We waited around and watched her motorcade come by. We saw her smiling and waving out of the window. A guy behind me said "She looked like a Queen".

14. Hillary wants Bush's throne for herself and Bill
The French took care of dynastic rule a long time ago. We should follow their example.

20. If we're going to have a dynasty can we at least have a good one
like the Kennedys? instead of a corrupt one like the Clintons who care about nothing except themselves and power for the sake of power?

They are everything that is wrong with politics.

3. Obama needs to visit
Not sure why he hasn't visited Asheville yet. He'll presumably do very, very well among Asheville's progressive community.

5. We could pack the Civic Center for sure.
My guess was Hillary had a smaller crowd than expected and moved to the smaller venue to look packed.

Obama already has a lot of supporters in Asheville, but I'd love to see him here. He should make a stop in Western NC, and this would be the place to do it.

8. Hope he doesn't make the same mistake he made in Philly,
by ignoring his base.

11. exactly
He needs to visit in order to keep his base fired up. He should visit Asheville, Boone, and maybe Hendersonville in western NC. Has he been to Hickory? Someone did. (Maybe it was a Clinton.)

10. Bad sign if they downsize the venue
You'd think in Asheville 7,000 wouldn't be that tough to draw.

Obama, Clinton both in NC on Monday

Apr 24, 2008 09:32 PM

The Associated Press
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama will visit North Carolina on Monday, just hours after primary opponent Hillary Rodham Clinton also holds a campaign event in the state.
Obama's campaign said Thursday night that the Illinois senator will hold a one-stop early vote rally Monday night at the Dean E. Smith Center. Participants will be encouraged to vote early.

Also Monday, Clinton and her daughter, Chelsea, will attend a campaign event that afternoon in Charlotte.

Clinton, a New York senator, also visited the state Thursday, with another stop planned for Friday in Jacksonville.

North Carolina holds its primary May 6 with 115 delegates at stake.

4. I read they are choosing small venues to pack them in to give the illusion they rival Obama's crowds
It's all smoke and mirrors now for Clinton, doncha know?

6. Oh, I know.
They could fill up the smaller venue. And, force many to stay on the street. Had they stayed with the Civic Center, no one would be left outside.

21. Schedule for a venue of 7000, moved to a 3000 venue and had
maybe 1000 left outside.

Sounds like she didn't want to be facing empty seats.

Interesting.
