and 23% of Democrats not sure....

After the holiday drought, expect polls to come fast and furious. This one is the latest by Harris for CNN/Time. MoE 4.9 %. (November results in parenthesis)
Not sure 23 (23)
Dean 22 (14)
Kerry 10 (9)
Lieberman 9 (11)
Clark 8 (12)
Gephardt 7 (6)
Sharpton 6 (5)
Edwards 5 (5)
Kucinich 5 (2)
Braun 2 (4)

Kerry + Lieberman + Clark + Gephardt + Edwards = 39%
(Moderate - Conservative Democrats)

1. That is the greatest example of spin I have seen in a long time
Edited on Sat Jan-03-04 01:16 PM by Armstead
Dean has double-digits (and more than twice as many as kerry) otehrs are in single digits -- and yet Dean is losing to moderates and conservatives.

Brilliant, absolutely brilliant, work of spinmanship there.

12. Okay here's some math
Edited on Sat Jan-03-04 01:26 PM by Armstead
Kucinich and Sharpton are not conservative or moderate. So -- if you insist on categorizing Dean as a wild-eyed liberal -- the real totals are Dean and liberals 33 percent.

Braun is more liberal on some issues like healthcare and the war so I'll add her in there too. Making it Dean and liberals 35 percent to 39 percent for the otehrs.

15. If we are going to add people together then we have to divide too
33 / 4 = 8.25 avg support for liberals

39 / 5 = 7.8 avg support for gutless whiteguys...er centrists

6. No kidding
And you will find nowhere on daily kos anything about moderates being ahead of Dean. I sure couldn't find it. Fine to interpret it anyway you want, but implying that daily kos said it is misleading. Somehow I don't think he'd appreciate it.

4. Uh, Dean is a moderate.
There really isn't much difference between the serious candidates on policy.

5. Umm..
I'd suggest you look at the the Congress-based candidates' voting records. They largely vote like liberals.

That, and vote piggybacking isn't an option. In order for Dean to not get the nomination one of them must beat him on their own. According to yesterday's Gallup poll, Clark comes closest, within 14% of Dean. I'm not sure if I believe that, but the non-uniform transfer of support from a dropout candidate to the other candidates must be considered.

In the meantime, "Not Sure" wins!

9. Dean Leads, Kerry 2nd Nationally: CNN/Time Poll
I posted this in another thread, but since it will be locked as dupe, I'll say this here.

*I will be the first to admit that national polls are unimportant, but it certainly is nice to see Kerry polling higher than Sharpton. It seems only Dean is unaffected by the MOE. A definite lead.

**Should also be noted that Kucinich seems to have picked up some support from 2 to 5%. I hope his progressive message is getting heard.

I'll add that I would like to see Clark polling above Lieberman. I think when things pick up over the next few weeks, he will.

10. Funny
I always thought that Dean was a moderate. His detractors can't make up their minds if he is a Dino or a McGovernite. Maybe he is just a mainstream democrat.

13. Dean is a conservative Dem who talks like a liberal
Reminds me of Bush. Conservative Republican who talked "compassionate conservative".

17. That spin is worthy of a Dreidle!
You have added four candidates together and shown them beating Dean as a group....now tell me in what election has it been an option to vote for more than one candidate?

Dude, that was really limp.
