To Those Posting 'Jokes' About Harm Being Done to Hillary Clinton
To the cruel, sick men here and their Stockholm Syndrome counterparts

who think it's funny to joke about violence against women

one of them being a presidential candidate...

If any harm should come to her, would you be laughing when the Secret Service knocked on your door for what you've written here? Because they SURELY would investigate every threat, real or implied.

Maybe you should THINK ABOUT IT.

Maybe you should try on a little dignity and think of Benazir Bhutto when joking about harm coming to Hillary Clinton.

None of you would stand for a minute any violent, threatening language used against Senator Obama, because it's plainly unacceptable,

but to a woman, one you like to hate so much you'd like to take her into THAT ROOM yourself, you RELISH it.

I'd like to know AGAIN from the administrators and moderators here why they have allowed this 'discussion board' to be a refuge so often for people who like to attack Hillary Clinton with vile slurs and violent hateful language?

Do you seriously believe that allowing escalating expressions of rage and hatred, and 'jokes' about it, cannot pose any threat to Senator Clinton?

(speaking only to those sick persons doing this. I'm sure again there are Obama supporters who do not like what they are doing.)

1. Meds... Someone needs thier meds.
Going in to a room, and one coming out - means a sit down, and the winner emerges - while the other goes away quietly. Clearly some people have some serious mental issues, to believe otherwise.

I'd post the other thread - but it appears that post was deleted, because I can't find it anymore. But it was from the same poster of the thread linked above (who often makes such comments).

Edited on Fri Apr-25-08 08:07 PM by Lirwin2
Your claim is that some Clinton supporters:

"Post in criticism of extra delegate awards in strong democratic areas as "Black" areas - so they don't count."

Papau posted:

"A standard result caused by the extra delegates awarded black areas"

Papau never said or implied they don't count. He stated a fact. Black areas are awarded more delegates, does anyone dispute this? Even though you've made a baseless claim against Papau attempting to paint him as a racist, I'm trying to be civil with you. So I'll ask you kindly not to make accusations without real proof in the future. Thanks.

Edited on Fri Apr-25-08 08:18 PM by Kittycat
Reading comprehension problems I see. And the context is implied - although more strongly in the thread that is now gone (probably because it was so strong).

eta: and yes, I do dispute it's in "black areas". It is in actually in HEAVILY DEMOCRATIC AREAS. They might have heavier AA population, but casting it as a "black area" is demeaning and discounts them - not only to the AA residents, but to the many other residents in that area. They are first and foremost democrats that consistently turn out the vote in high numbers.

133. That's pushing it a little. Bringing up someone's behavior from elsewhere in the CONTEXT of
the new thread isn't 'carrying on an argument' from another one. Nor can one be considered "stalking" if they find themselves posting in response to the same poster in different threads so long as it is in the respective context each thread.

A good example is when someone says something racist in one thread, and then accuses someone else of being racist in another. Teh poster that happened to witness this behavior in the first thread may find it's appropriate to remind that other poster of what they said elsewhere, thereby changing the apparent value of their post in context.

There is a line between 'stalking' and bringing up behavior of a poster that is pertinent to the thread or post in question.

'Researching another poster's behavior when it is pertinent to the thread is also not necessarily 'stalking'... although it does come a little closer than the above example.

Oddly, we seem not to be mean (well, most of us, anyway) to people who post in support of Clinton without making outrageous claims or taking shots at Obama.

Find the last pro-Clinton post that didn't try to evoke math from other dimensions or attack Obama and see how many Obama supporters posted "I might not agree, but congratulations" messages.

I have no problem with Clinton supporters with the exception of the 15-20 here who do their best to impersonate paid Clinton bloggers.

60. I believe the general sentiment here is in agreement with you (mine included)
My post wasn't meant to make light of sexism or violence toward women. It was, I believe, an appropriate response to an OP that took itself a little too seriously...not because it decried violence toward women, but because it equated Olberman's statement with a call for a literal attack on Clinton.

We see a lot of that here...people taking a random statement and mounting a crusade upon it...and that's just silly.

Yes, it was an inflammatory remark. Olberman's an actor for chrissake. His income doesn't depend on his analysis of events, it depends on ratings. Making inflammatory statements...within limits...is just smart showbiz. Nobody sane believes that he was actually calling for Clinton to be physically harmed.

I may staunchly agree with somebody's overall message, but believe that they're being a bit silly and lacking in perspective...and I have no problem (at times, sarcastically) stating that view.

Don't think of "unregistering" just because you're momentarily disenchanted.

Yes, there is a way, but let's not be rash until you've decided that you're opposed to Democratic control of the government... then 'unregistering' becomes very easy... or so I've seen.

I'm still waiting for Dems to control everything before I decide to start attacking them en masse. They are still the best hope. One day, they may become as corrupt as the Republicans, but until then, they are still the best hope for the people.

Stick around until then.

Edited on Fri Apr-25-08 09:40 PM by frickaline
Her acceptance of this doesn't make it not sexism, quite the opposite. She had to swallow this bit of sexism with a smile to be electable. If she were a feminist about it, she'd alienate a lot of male voters.

Pantsuit is a derogatory term applied only to females in politics seeking power. Seems like the definition of sexism to me.

It says nothing about her intelligence, capabilities or competence. It's a criticism of her wardrobe choices.

If you are asking why it is derogatory, its because of the context in which it is used. People here use this to underscore the fact that she is female as they insult her. I find that revolting.

72. A couple of problems with your assertion:
1) There IS actually a garment known as a "pantsuit". It was popular in the 1920's and enjoyed a mainstream resurgence in the 1960's.

2) Hillary Clinton frequently wears pantsuits.

This is not some code word for whatever sinister assault on politicians of female gender you imagine. It's an attack (albeit, a juvenile attack) on her fashion sense....and, if you want to stretch, an attack on her age.

74. Nobody's calling Clinton a "pantsuit". They're joking about her WEARING pantsuits.
Pantsuits, in current culture, are almost like the leisure suits of the 70's...or the bellbottoms of the 60's...or the poodle skirts of the 50's.

They're thought of as being something that was trendy but terrible as a lasting fashion choice. Poking fun at somebody who wears them today wouldn't suggest sexism, it would suggest that they didn't have a realistic view of the present.

62. LulaMay, the jokes and insults here are juvenile and counter-productive.
Why people can't just say "I disagree, and here's why" is beyond me.

But I don't think these are the kinds of things that have any effect on Hillary Clinton's physical safety. I do think it's all part of the same ball of wax, though -- the reasons people find it fun to joke about violence to women is wrapped up in the reasons violence against women is so prevalent in our society. It's all related to the reasons hatred, disrespect, ridicule, and double-standards of all sorts are acceptable, unquestioned, and even UNSEEN when it comes to women.

It's always seen as more secure, hip, aware, fashionable, modern, sane, relaxed, happy, etc. to go with the flow of the norms and mores. It's when you stand up to them that you're called sick, crazy, extreme, ridiculous, hysterical, whining, over-reactive, and are subject to the ridicule that makes others feel yet more secure, hip, aware, etc. by dividing themselves from you.

So what a majority hold to as rebellious and anti-establishment is probably not -- it's conformist. And what the majority ridicules as silly, crazy, or establishment is probably a stance only a few brave rebels will dare to take.

Without people like you, there'd be no debate here at all -- just collective ranting. As it is, it's hard to find the debate in between the rants!

Hang in there.

83. LulaMay. Darling. Have a seat, rest a spell, soothe your weary self
from the wiener-wielding cyber-rapists on DU.

I don't think you like male humans very much. Your posts certainly insist on a girls-as-victims / boys-as-callous sexists hinge. That is to say, they all do. All of your posts are pro-Clinton -- I have no problem with that per se -- but they are mostly anti-male.

You are a flaring coward for not acknowledging that your candidate's political woes result from her spectacular mismanagement of her campaign and not her sex or gender.

You post that males are callous, insensitive, coarse, and given to extreme sexist attitudes, comment, and action against women, meaning both all women generally and Hillary Clinton particularly.

May one then use the same broad stroke you use, dip it in another can of paint, and assert that women are weepy, weak, hyper-touchy, prudish, and given to extreme victim-card attitudes, comment, and action?

You like them apples any better?

Your posts are crap. They're sexist / reverse-sexist, thoughtless, strident, and require YOU as a victim and males generally as perpetrators to assume form, and the form they assume is a gross mutation of the truth.

You're dead wrong on all counts and the vacuous hyperventilating you do against us boys on this site has reduced you and your candidate to a one-dimensional cartoon.

101. Used a Metaphor
Olbermann was discussing the election with Newsweek's Howard Fineman, a frequent guest. They topic was, how can a winner finally be determined in this never-ending Democratic race for the nomination? Of course, the assumption was that it was Clinton that should be shown the door (despite clearly still earning her spot in the race thanks to, um, voters). Fineman said that, all the delegate math aside, ultimately it was going to take "some adults somewhere in the Democratic party to step in and stop this thing, like a referee in a fight that could go on for thirty rounds. Those are the super, super, super delegates who are going to have to decide this."

Said Olbermann: "Right. Somebody who can take her into a room and only he comes out."

This afternoon - spokesperson for Olbermann said this: It is a metaphor. I apologize: the generic "he" gender could imply something untoward. It should've been "only the other comes out - from a political point of view." You could've called for reaction first if your main motive had merely been criticism.

and he mentioned on show tonight -

Do you even understand what the Stockholm Syndrome is? Obviously not. I don't know a single person here who has been held captive by ANYONE and then begun to identify with their captors. So you're saying that we're being held captive by Obama and have somehow become brainwashed in the process? I'm sorry but this is even more ridiculous than your hypothsis that only men here have joked about Hillary or that they secretly want her beaten and/or killed. You've shot any and all credibility that you might have had here with this bit of ridiculousness. Oh, and just so you'll know, I'm female. I'm just not insane like you are.

126. Mystery2Me, I have to confess. I have a massive electrovoltage apparatus
in my basement, and if anyone in the neighborhood offends me in thoughts, judgment, or actions, I hogtie them, drag them down the stairwell through a secret back door, strap their contentious asses to the table, wire 'em up, and let the thing rip, full-throttle, while I laugh maniacally all the while.

LulaMay obviously sensed this and boldly went public with her accusation . . . !

129. I think Himmler counts as a "sick, cruel" man -- to use the OP's phrase.
So does Pol Pot.

And very arguably, Bill Frist.

If you are male and support Obama, I don't think that's enough to qualify. I really don't.

If you are male -- or female -- and endorse the Stockholm experiements for sheer sport and amusement, you might qualify then, certainly.

Short of that, I think the strident, hysterical, shrieking tone of the OP is way the hell off-base.

130. One of the oldest traditions
Of human kind -- weak men taking their lack of status out on women. They can't or won't confront men, so like to threaten women.

It's just so easy to threaten and bully a person half your size. Much easier than trying to lift yourself up.

Too bad there are so many of them here on DU.

136. There you go again. Making shit up to get people all riled up and getting plenty of RECS in the
process. Do you have links for your accusations?

141. I've been the victim of violence; pernicious violent evil. In some of the responses here it's clear
Certain DU posters have not a single clue how it is, that too often violence is enabled by little more than an off-colored joke. I don't care who you support: Clinton, or Obama. If you are not able to contribute to the solution, then you are part of the problem. And in the process only kidding yourself with your own sanctimonious belief that such things never happen, or occur to people here that consider themselves Lib/Pro.
