Poll question: What would be Obama's best response to Rev. Wright commercial in NC?
Here's the commercial:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXxkctYRAZQ

In the history of attack ads, this is one of the lamer efforts, but what response if any is needed to neutralize it?

1. Wright responded best in his interview with Bill Moyer
"People who heard the whole sermon understood exactly what was being communicated. Those using soundbites for other purposes communicated exactly what they intended to."

5. Run an ad showing McCain's, Hillary's campaign's, and the RNC's denouncements of the ad, then have a
narrator say "It's time for a change in our politics".

9. Other. Show clips of Bush in egregious situations- lying about WMD,
making fun of WMD, lying about war, destroying Geneva conventions, etc.

Then show McCain hugging Bush.

Voiceover: The Republicans tell you that a candidate is responsible for anything that anyone in their acquaintance says. John McCain- how do you explain George Bush?

15. Loyalty matters
"I don't abandon my friends. The Rev. Wright is a better man and a better American than those 20 second film clips would like you to believe. And he's a better American than many of those questioning his patriotism. He served his country well, as a marine, and he has served his community well as Pastor. I'm sure, that in the course of 20 years of passionate preaching, he has occasionally said things that were over the top. Some people are saying that if I'll just throw Reverend Wright under the bus, all this will blow over. It won't, because the people launching these attacks will just find another smear. He has been accused of no crime. He has been accused of no morally dubious act. What we have instead is a vague allegation that the Reverend Wright is somehow unpatriotic. He doesn't love America enough, or in the right way. The meanest kind of McCarthyite smear by people who have no moral high ground from which to sit in judgement of another man's patriotism. As with the business of the flag pin or the hand over the heart during the pledge, these are all ways of saying that I am unpatriotic, that I don't love America enough, or in the right way. It's a reprehensible tactic and it's bunk."

27. Well, sort of. The 'bitchy gossips" was less the focus than talking about Change
and changing the subject to something that matters.
