5. My dear Dinger...
I voted "other"...

I generally give a rec when I know the poster well...

And if I think the topic is very worthy...

That's how I decide!

:hi:

7. People recommend threads that are favorable to the candidate they prefer
That's why pro-Obama threads get zillions of recs.

13. if it shows courage in running against the DU hive mind....
oh, I'll rec for some of the other reasons in your poll, too, but I admire posts that go against the "purity tests" that have developed here recently on so many issues. I admire that kind of courage in a situation where the pressure for conformity of thought has reached very intense levels.

15. I recommend thought-provoking threads
and ignore the balance of the rest in GD: Primaries. It's my survival technique within this forum.

17. Other: I like to watch my vote count :)
Seriously, I like your first and third choices, since I tend to rec as agreement and encouragement for those who write well researched threads. My way of saying More threads like this!

I was your 5th rec, good topic :hi:

18. I only recommend threads which explicitly ask for recs.
It's easier that way. I don't have to think about it.

23. I think the thread deserves more eyeballs.
Not the same as agreeing with every opinion in the thread, or saying it's good news -- just "here, read this, it's (at least a little) important".
