Department of Ridiculous Arguments: unity ticket! |
|
Obama is unelectable, except if Hillary is given the VP slot?
Yeah, Obama needs a running mate who questioned his patriotism, claimed that Americans will not vote for a black man, and pushed that he has ties to terrorists.
:sarcasm:
Then there is the constant spin about Hillary's support among blue collar white voters
Let's say half of Hillary's white supporters decide to sit out the election. The other half will boost Obama's support between 24 and 35 pts.
Is the suggestion that half of Hillary supporters will vote for McCain? What are the chances of that happening?
Conversely, can Hillary win the election with less than half (same formula) the black vote?
Hillary is losing miserably. Talk about her abysmal performance in the 17, including 6 primary, states that Obama won by 60 pts or more.
Unlike the Dem primary, the GE is open, meaning Independents will choose sides. Talk about Hillary's abysmal performance among independents. How does she plan to win over those voters? That's not a problem for Obama.
Trying to equate white Democrats choosing between two Democratic candidates in the primary with how they'll vote in the GE is silly.

5. I am always baffled at what sort of "payoff" some women |

think they are going to get by voting for Clinton--either personally, or for feminism in general. It would never occur to me to vote for her because we share the same anatomy.

6. It's actually sexist to me to vote for someone based specifically on their gender. |
|
Just as it is to refuse to vote for them based on that. I look at issues, I look at character. Male/female, black/white/etc matters not.

A lot of Clinton supporters seem to have backed themselves into a corner with cognitive dissonance on this issue. If Hillary were more electable among Democrats, she wouldn't be getting her ass handed to her and Obama wouldn't be making steady gains into Hillary's key demographics.

11. it's not ridiculous, but it is premature |
|
reagan picked bush after they had a rather bitter nomination battle, including bush famously calling reagan's supply-side crap "voodoo economics".
what IS ridiculous is letting that distant possibility influence your primary voting decision. we pick the top of the ticket first, and then the winner effectively picks his/her running mate.
at this stage it is very unlikely that either would pick the other. the next stage doesn't happen until we ALL agree that the nomination race is over, which is probably means at the convention itself.

If they can't win, the neocons will try to put Hillary on the ticket as the new Cheney.

14. Here comes the arguments: Obama needs Hillary to win? |
|
Isn't Obama winning without Hillary?
It's all about Hillary, the candidate who is currently suffering an embarrassing loss that she had resort to questioning Obama's patriotism.
