I Just Watched the Bill Moyers / Rev. Wright Interview

Mr. Wright, in this setting, struck me as someone I have no argument with.

However, when he goes behind the pulpit and puts on the show, I see him as just a leftie version of Pat Robertson, James Dobson, etc.

If BO continues his campaign and gets the nod, Wright is going to have to go on every tv show he can, as often as he can, and keep putting his message out there in venues where he shows a little more reason, a little less brimstone, or BO's gonna be toast.

8. I posted in another thread - this man is very intelligent.

And has a way to open your eyes, and help you clearly see down a completely different path. I grew up in a fundamentalist, white church - and where I do see some similarities in "show" behind the pulpit - the message is quite different.

Hagee et al preach that we suffer for sins such as aids, etc. Wright, to me, points to the real problem (us, our government, our history, unwillingness to change, etc) - as the cause of our suffering. The unwillingness to change and believe that there can be something better than this - but it's our job to change it.

Revenge vs. redemption - etc, etc.

I really cannot disagree with him.

51. The tell-tale signs of someone who's only heard the sound bites

Those sound bites in the full context of those sermons were not bigotry and hate. They were a call to the people of the US to learn from the mistakes of the past and become a better nation, better people by not allowing exploitation and war to be what defines us (there's more to it, but this is a blog post, not a white paper). If that upsets you, then your patriotism may only be for show.

Second point - the Democratic party became a mess in the "ninties" thanks to DLC capitulation to the republicans and the Clintons ignoring the development of their own party. We got lucky that President Clinton was fiscally responsible, highly intelligent, and well liked by people here and abroad. But the corporate raiders never slowed down through his entire 8 years in office and the republicans gained a solid foot hold in our government (so much so that a buffoon like gwb could be elected).

I read this thread earlier, when a troll was on it posting about 10 times about how much he hates Obama. Just looked at it again now. I never realized what a difference one poster could make. I was under the impression that the whole thread was kind of negative and nutty, even though I could see that there was one instigator. Now it seems just average with some agreement and some disagreement.
